The tamilsare
Dravidians, an ethnic division which includes the Canarese, Malayalis,
and Andhra people who occupy the whole of South India. Tamil is the oldest
and the principal Dravidian language. The Tamils have an ancient literary
and cultural heriatage. The first Tamil grammar, Tholkapiyam, was compiled
as early as the first millennium BC. The classical Sangam literature dates
from the 1st to 4th Centuries AD and consists of a collection of poems
and a number of literary works dealing with war, love, religion and society.
Tamils live in many parts of the
world. India,Srilanka,Singapore,Malasia,Canada,England are few countries
to name. In India alone, there are about 50 million Tamils live. They are
very hard working people. Most of them are well-educated. Sir C.V.Raman,
a tamil, from south India received nobel prize for Physics for his research
on Light which is known as "Raman Effect". His relative Dr.Chandrasegar
received nobel prize for his studies on "Black Holes" which is known as
"Chandrasegar's Limit".The another well-known mathematician Ramanujan is
also a Tamil.Tamil literature also produced many talented writers. Their
literary master pieces are yet to be identified by the other parts of the
world. Since Tamils live all over the world, we should try to translate
Tamil literary works into other prominent world languages such as English/
French so that they will receive enough attention from others.
