தமிழரசுக்கட்சியின் தொடக்குநரும் தமிழ்மக்களின் தந்தை எனவும் வாஞ்சையோடு போற்றப்படும் தந்தை செல்வாவின் 36 ஆவது ஆண்டு நினைவு நாள் விழா தமிழரசுக் கட்சியால் அனுட்டிக்கப்பட்டது. வந்தாறுமூலை சித்திவிநாயகர் ஆலய முன்றிலில் நடந்த இந்த விழாவுக்கு கிழக்கு மாகாணசபை உறுப்பினர் கி. துரைராஜசிங்கம் தலைமை வகித்தார். இந்நிகழ்வில் முதன்மை விருந்தினராக நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர் சுமந்திரன் கலந்துகொண்டதுடன் பிரதம விருந்தினர்களாக நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்களான பொன்.செல்வராசா, பா. அரியநேந்திரன், சீ.யோகேஸ்வரன் ஆகியோரும் சிறப்பு விருந்தினர்களாக கிழக்கு மாகாணசபை உறுப்பினர்களான கிருஸ்ணபிள்ளை (வெள்ளிமலை) மா.நடராசா, அம்பாறை மாவட்ட மாகாணசபை உறுப்பினர் இராஜேஸ்வரன், திருமலை மாவட்ட மாகாணசபை உறுப்பினர் நாகேஸ்வரன் உட்பட பலர் கலந்து கொண்டனர். இதன்போது சித்திவிநாயகர் ஆலயத்தில் சிறப்பு பூசை இடம்பெற்றதுடன் தந்தை செல்வாவின் திருவுருவப்படத்துக்கு மலர்மாலை அணிவிக்கப்பட்டது. அதனைத் தொடர்ந்து வரவேற்புரையினை தமிழரசுக் கட்சியின் இளைஞர் அணித்தலைவர் சேயோன் நிகழ்த்தினனார். அதனைத் தொடர்ந்து தலைமையுரையினை கி.துரைராஜசிங்கம் நிகழ்த்தினார். இதனைத் தொடர்ந்து மா.அ. சுமந்திரன், பா.உறுப்பினர் தந்தை செல்வா நினைவுப் பேருரை ஆற்றினார். அதன் முழு வடிவம் கீழே கொடுக்ப்பட்டுள்ளது.
திரைப்படம் வழி வரலாற்தை தேடிச் செல்பவன் எனும் அளவில், தலிபான் குறித்துச் சிந்திக்கிறபோது பல்வேறு முன்வரலாற்று அனுபவங்களும், திரைப்படப் பதிவுகளும் உடனடியாகவே ஞாபகம் வருகிறது. இருபதாம் நூற்றாண்டு வரலாற்றை எடுத்துக் கொண்டால் பாசிசத்தைக் கருத்தியலாக நிறுத்திய இனக்கொலை வரலாறு, அதிகாரவர்க்கத்திற்கும் பழமைவாதிகளுக்கும் எதிரானது எனக் கோரப்பட்டு அறிவுஜீவிகளுக்கும் தொழிலாளி வர்க்கத்திற்கும் அப்பாவி மக்களுக்கும் எதிராகத் திரும்பிய கலாச்சாரப் புரட்சி, ஸ்டாலின் காலத்துச் சைபீரியப் பாலைவன சித்திரவதை முகாம்கள், அதீத மானுடக் கனவில் விளைந்து பிற்பாடு மனிதக் கபாலங்களின் எண்ணிக்கையைக் குவித்த கொடூரமாக மாறிய போல்பாட் காலத்திய பூஜ்யவரலாற்று மானுட விரோத நடவடிக்கைகள் என கருத்தியல்களுக்கும் வன்முறைக்குமான சாட்சியமாக வரலாறு நம் முன் இருக்கிறது. சின்ட்லர்ஸ் லிஸ்ட், கில்லிங் பீல்ட்ஸ், பாஸ்டர்நாக், டுலிவ், புளு கைட், பேர்வல் மை காங்குபைன் போன்ற திரைப்படங்கள் முறையே பாசிசம், போல்பாட் படுகொலைகள், ஸைபீரிய முகாம் சித்திரவதைகள், கலாச்சாரப் புரட்சி காலத்து அத்துமீறல்கள் போன்றவற்றின் திரைச் சாட்சிகளாக நமக்கு முன் இருக்கின்றன.
தன்னை விடவும் 75 வயதுகள் கூடிய ஒரு முதியவரைத் திருமணம் செய்ய நேர்ந்த 15 வயது இளம்பெண் மற்றும் அனைத்து நாடுகளினதும் கெஞ்சல்களை மீறி சிரச்சேதம் செய்யப்பட்ட இளம்பெண் ரிஸானா நபீக். இந்த ஆண்டின் தொடக்கத்தில் இந்த இரண்டு இளவயதுப் பெண்கள் தொடர்பான செய்திகளே சவூதி அரேபிய ஊடகங்களில் மிகவும் முக்கியத்துவம் வாய்ந்த செய்திகளாக அமைந்தன. தாம் இந்தளவுக்குப் பிரபலமாகப் போகிறோமென கிஞ்சித்தேனும் நினைத்துக் கூடப் பார்த்திராத இப் பெண்கள் முழு உலகத்தினதும் கவனத்தை ஈர்த்துவிட்டார்கள். 90 வயது முதியவரைத் திருமணம் முடிக்க நேர்ந்த சிறுமியின் பெயர் ஊடக தர்மத்தின் காரணமாக எந்த ஊடகங்களாலும் வெளியிடப்படவில்லை. ஆனாலும் அவரது வயது பதினைந்து எனக் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளது. சவூதியரான தாய்க்கும், யெமனைச் சேர்ந்த தந்தைக்கும் பிறந்த இந்தச் சிறுமியின் குடும்பம் மிகவும் வறியது. வறுமையிலிருந்து மீளும் வழியை, 90 வயது முதியவரொருவர் இவரது தாயிடம் எடுத்துக் கூறியிருக்கிறார். அதாவது 17,500 அமெரிக்க டொலர்கள் தந்து அப் பெண்ணைத் தான் திருமணம் செய்ய விரும்புவதாகக் கூறியதும், வேறு வழியின்றி பெற்றோர் சம்மதிக்க வேண்டியதாயிற்று. தனது எதிர்காலத்தை இருளுக்குள் தள்ள வேண்டாமென பெற்றோரிடமும், உறவினர்களிடமும் அழுது புலம்பிய சிறுமியின் கதறல்கள் பலனற்றுப் போயின. பணத்தினைப் பெற்றுக் கொண்ட பெற்றோர்கள் சிறுமியை முதியவரின் வீட்டில் கொண்டுபோய் விட்டனர்.
நாட்டின் முதல் தேர்தல் 1955 ஆம் ஆண்டு தொடங்கி 2013 ஆம் ஆண்டு வரையில் 13 ஆவது பொதுத்தேர்தல் 5.5.2013 ஆம் நாள் நடைபெறுகிறது. 31.8.1957 ஆம் நாள் மூன்று இனங்களுக்கு ஆங்கிலேயர் வழங்கிய சுதந்திரம் மூன்று சமத்துவத்துடன் வாழவும் நாட்டின் செல்வச் செழிப்பை மூவினங்களும்அனுபவிக்கவேண்டிய நிலையில் அம்னோவின் ஆதிக்கப்போக்கால் அன்று தொடங்கி இன்றுவரை மலாய்க்காரர்களின் செல்வாக்கு மேலோங்கியிருக்கிறது. நாட்டின் செல்வத்தை மலாய்க்காரர்கள் மட்டுமே அனுபவிக்கும் வகையில் இருபத்திரண்டு ஆண்டுகளாக நாட்டின் பிரதமராக குறுகிய பார்வையோடு தவறான ஆட்சி புரிந்தவர் மகாதீர்.மலேசியர்கள் குறிப்பாக இந்தியர்கள் மகாதீரை மன்னிக்க மாட்டார்கள். இவர் நாட்டைச் சுரண்டியது போதாதென்று,மகன் கெடாமாநிலத்துக்கு மந்திரி புசாராக வருவதற்கு கடுமையாக உழைக்கிறார்.தந்தை செய்ததைத்தானே மகன் முக்கிரிசும் செய்யப்போகிறார். நாட்டுச் சொத்துக்களை மகாதீர் குடும்பம் மட்டுமே எடுத்துக் கொண்டால் எப்படி? இது அநியாயம் இல்லையா? மலேசிய மக்கள் அனைவரும் முட்டாள்களா?
ஒட்டக்கூத்தன் பாட்டுக்கு இரட்டைத் தாழ்ப்பாள் என்பது போல திட்டமிட்ட சிங்களக் குடியேற்றத்துக்கு எதிராக தமிழர் தரப்பு காட்டுகிற எதிர்ப்பைப் பற்றிக் கிஞ்சித்தும் சிங்கள - பவுத்த பேரினவாத அரசு மனதில் கொள்ளாது மேலும் மேலும் சிங்களக் குடியேற்றத்தைத் துரிதகெதியில் முடுக்கி வருகிறது. முன்னைய காலத்தில் சிங்களக் குடியேற்றம் காதும் காதும் வைத்தாற் போல் ஓசைப்படாமல் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டது. அதுவும் பெரும்பாலும் அரசுக்குச் சொந்தமான நிலங்கள் சிங்களக் குடியேற்றத்துக்குப் பயன்படுத்தப்பட்டன. ஆனால் இன்று அது தலை கீழ் மாற்றம் பெற்றுள்ளது. இன்று சிங்கள - பவுத்த பேரினவாத அரசு பகிரங்கமாக அறிவித்துவிட்டு தமிழர்களுக்குச் சொந்தமான நிலத்தில் சிங்களக் குடும்பங்களைக் குடியேற்றி வருகிறது. கேட்டால் அவர்கள் போர் காரணமாக இடம் பெயர்ந்தவர்கள் என்று சொல்கிறது. இரண்டு நாள்களுக்கு முன் செய்தி ஏடுகளில் வெளிவந்த செய்தியின் படி வடக்கில் 18,000 சிங்களக் குடும்பங்களைக் குடியேற்ற அரசு முடிவு செய்து அதற்கான ஆயத்தங்கள் செய்யப்படுகிறதாம். வரும் யூன் மாதத்திற்கு முன்னர் வடக்கில் 18 ஆயிரம் சிங்கள குடும்பங்களைக் குடியேற்றத் திட்டம்! என்ற தலைப்பிட்டு வெளிவந்திருக்கும் அந்தச் செய்தியின் படி வட மாகாணத்தில் எதிர்வரும் யூன் மாதத்திற்கு முன்னர் 18 ஆயிரம் தென்பகுதி சிங்களக் குடும்பங்களை குடியமர்த்தவும் அவர்களுக்கு பிரத்தியேகமாக நிரந்தர வீடுகளையும் காணிகளையும் வழங்கவும் சிறீலங்கா அரசாங்கம் நடவடிக்கை எடுத்துள்ளது. இவ்விடயம் தொடர்பான சிறப்புக் கலந்துரையால் ஒன்று கொழும்பில் இடம்பெற்றுள்ளது.

April 03, 2013- Uthayan Tamil newspaper and TNA leaders are under attack by Government Goons in the North. We unreservedly and unequivocally condemn the attack on the Uthayan Tamil newspaper office at Kilinochchi on April 03, 2013. This attack comes on the heels of another attack on TNA MPs and party activists holding a meeting at Sritharan MP's Office at Kilinochchi on March 31, 2013 to discuss forthcoming Northern Provincial Council election. This by no means is the first time such brazen attacks have taken place openly and during day light. Although the four MPs escaped unhurt, the attackers inflicted injuries to at least 13 persons and 2 personnel from the Ministerial Security Division (MSD) before walking away from the scene. Among the attackers were army intelligence operatives and CIDs from the Police! Three were caught red-handed, but the Police let them go. These planned attacks could be the beginning of a new wave of violent government campaign to intimidate and disrupt TNA and its supporters. The latest attack on Uthayan Tamil newspaper office at Kilinochchi causing widespread damage to property is one of several earlier attacks on Uthayan editorial staff, reporters and employees. They have faced deaths, threats and intimidation before and continued to do so now.

After Prime Minister Manmohan Singh rebuffed Yashwant Sinha’s demand for his appearance before JPC on 2G, the BJP leader on Wednesday said failure to do so would send a “loud and clear” signal that he has something to hide. “If the PM says his conscience is clear, he should offer to appear before JPC,” Sinha said. . Sinha asserted that JPC is the only committee before which a minister or the PM can appear. He accused JPC Chairman P.C. Chako of behaving in a “partisan manner”. and trying to “scuttle” former telecom minister A Raja’s appearance before it. “No truth will come out if the Prime Minister and Finance Minister do not appear before the JPC,” insisted Sinha, himself a JPC member.

20 Mar, 2013 - WASHINGTON: The US-sponsored draft resolution before the ongoing session of the UN Human Rights Commission in (UNHRC) "calls" the Sri Lankan government to conduct an "independent and credible" investigation into allegations of human rights violations. The draft resolution - a copy of which has been obtained by PTI - has not ceded to demands of human rights bodies for an independent international investigation, as being called by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in its report. Welcoming the announcement by the Lankan government to hold elections to the Provincial Council in the Northern Province in September 2013, the draft resolution now calls upon Colombo to fulfill its public commitments, including on the devolution of political authority. A previous version of the draft resolution had expressed concern over the "failure" of the Sri Lanka to fulfill its commitment on devolution of power. The draft resolution, currently under circulation, also welcomes and acknowledge the progress made by the Lankan government in rebuilding infrastructure, demining, resettling the majority of internally displaced persons. At the same time it takes note of the considerable work that lie ahead in the areas of justice, reconciliation and resumption of livelihoods, and stresses the importance of the full participation of local populations, including representatives of civil society and minorities, in these efforts.

The standard story is that it empowers the powerless, but that's only half the story. The Internet empowers everyone. Powerful institutions might be slow to make use of that new power, but since they are powerful, they can use it more effectively. Governments and corporations have woken up to the fact that not only can they use the Internet, they can control it for their interests. Unless we start deliberately debating the future we want to live in, and the role of information technology in enabling that world, we will end up with an Internet that benefits existing power structures and not society in general. We've all lived through the Internet's disruptive history. Entire industries, like travel agencies and video rental stores, disappeared. Traditional publishing -- books, newspapers, encyclopedias, music -- lost power, while Amazon and others gained. Advertising-based companies like Google and Facebook gained a lot of power. Microsoft lost power (as hard as that is to believe). The Internet changed political power as well. Some governments lost power as citizens organized online. Political movements became easier, helping to topple governments. The Obama campaign made revolutionary use of the Internet, both in 2008 and 2012.

தமிழர்களது விடுதலைப் போராட்டத்திற்கு நீண்ட வரலாறு உண்டு. இருபத்தேழு ஆண்டுகள் (1956 - 1983) சாத்வீகப் போராட்டம். மேலும் 26 ஆண்டுகள் (1983 - 2009) ஆயுதப் போராட்டம். இப்போது கடந்த 3 ஆண்டுகளாக சாத்வீகப் போராட்டம். தொடக்கப் புள்ளியில் மீண்டும் வந்து நிற்கிறோம். சாத்வீகப் போராட்டத்துக்கு தலைமை தாங்கியவர் தந்தை செல்வநாயகம். 1948 இல் டி.எஸ். சேனநாயக்காவால் கொண்டு வந்து நிறேவேற்றப்பட்ட 18 ஆம் இலக்கக் குடியுரிமை சட்டம் அதே ஆண்டு நொவெம்பர் மாதம் 15 ஆம் நாள் நாடாளுமன்றத்தில் நிறைவேற்றப்பட்டது. அதனை தீவிரமாக எதிர்த்துப் பேசியவர் தந்தை செல்வநாயகம். எதிர்த்து வாக்களித்தவர். அப்போது தந்தை செல்வநாயகம் தமிழ்க் காங்கிரஸ் கட்சியின் துணைத் தலைவராக இருந்தார். அதன் தலைவர் ஜி.ஜி. பொன்னம்பலம் குடியுரிமைச் சட்டத்தை எதிர்த்துப் பேசவில்லை. ஆனால் எதிர்த்து வாக்களித்திருந்தார். 1947 ஆம் ஆண்டு நடந்த நாடாளுமன்றத் தேர்தலில் யாழ்ப்பாணத் தொகுதியில் அய்க்கிய தேசியக் கட்சி வேட்பாளர் அருணாசலம் மகாதேவாவை 9,000 அதிகப்படி வாக்குகளால் தோற்கடித்து வெற்றி பெற்றவர் பொன்னம்பலம். "கந்தசாமியைக் கொன்ற துரோகி மகாதேவா ஒழிக" என்பது அவரது தேர்தல் முழக்கமாக இருந்தது. ஆனால் 1948 இல் அதே அய்க்கிய கட்சியின் தலைவர் டி.எஸ். சேனநாயக்காவோடு அமைச்சர் பதவிக்குப் பேரம் பேசினார். பத்து இலட்சம் மலையகத் தமிழர்களது குடியுரிமை பறிக்கப்படுவதைப் பற்றி அவர் கவலைப் படவில்லை. அவர்களது வாக்குரிமை பறிபோவதைப் பற்றி அவர் எண்ணிப்பார்க்கவில்லை. தமிழர்களது வாக்குப் பலத்தை சரிபாதியாகக் குறைத்த குடியுரிமை சட்டத்தின் விளைவையோ அல்லது அதனைக் கொண்டு வந்து நிறைவேற்றிய டி.எஸ. சேனநாயக்காவின் கபட நோக்கத்தையோ பொன்னம்பலம் அறிந்திருக்கவில்லை என்று சொல்ல முடியாது. ஆனால் அமைச்சர் பதவிக்கு ஆசைப்பட்ட பொன்னம்பலம் அந்தச் சட்டத்தின் பின்விளைவுகளைப் பற்றிக் கவலைப்பட வில்லை.

Toronto, January 24, 2013 — Canada will launch a brand new program on April 1 to recruit innovative immigrant entrepreneurs who will create new jobs and spur economic growth, Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney announced today. “Our new Start-Up Visa will help make Canada the destination of choice for the world’s best and brightest to launch their companies,” said Minister Kenney. “Recruiting dynamic entrepreneurs from around the world will help Canada remain competitive in the global economy.” The Start-Up Visa Program will link immigrant entrepreneurs with private sector organizations in Canada that have experience working with start-ups and who can provide essential resources. The Program is part of a series of transformational changes to Canada’s immigration system that will make it faster, more flexible and focused on Canada’s economic needs. As a way to help these in-demand entrepreneurs fulfil their potential and maximize their impact on the Canadian labour market, they will require the support of a Canadian angel investor group or venture capital fund before they can apply to the Start-Up Visa Program. Initially, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) will collaborate with two umbrella groups: Canada’s Venture Capital & Private Equity Association (CVCA) and the National Angel Capital Organization (NACO). These groups will identify which members of their associations will be eligible to participate in the Program. CIC is also working with the Canadian Association of Business Incubation to include business incubators in the list of eligible organizations as soon as feasible.

பயித்தியமாகவும் கேடுகெட்டும் போன அரசு (Government Gone Mad And Bad) என்ற தலைப்பு எஸ்.எல். குணசேகரா சிறீலங்கா சட்டத்தரணிகள் சங்கத்துக்கு (BASL) 28 - 11 - 2012 அன்று அனுப்பிய கடிதத்தின் ஊக்குவிப்பாகும். குணசேகரா பசில் க்கு அனுப்பிய கடிதத்தில் "இப்போது பதவியிலுள்ள பயித்தியக்கார அரசு உச்ச நீதிமன்ற நீதியரசருக்கு எதிராக முன்னெடுத்துள்ள அரசியல் குற்றச்சாட்டை" எதிர்க்குமாறு கேட்டிருந்தார். அண்மையில் வெளிவந்த பெட்றீ (Petrie) அறிக்கை 70,000 தமிழர்கள் அரசினால் கொல்லப்பட்டதாகக் கூறியது. ஆனால் அதையிட்டு ஒட்டுமொத்தச் சிங்களவர்களும் பாராமுகமாக இருந்துவிட்டார்கள். கடந்த வாரம் பசில் அமைப்பு புதிய தலைமை நீதியரசரை ஆதரிப்பதில்லை என எடுத்த முடிவு பாராட்டத்தக்கது. ஆனால் நாட்டிலும் பசில் அமைப்பிலும் அதிகளவு பிழைகள் இருக்கின்றன. தலைமை நீதியரசர் விவகாரம் வெறுமனே நோயின் அறிகுறிதான். எடுத்துக்காட்டாக டொலர் 100 மில்லியன் பெறுமதியான ஓட்டப்பந்தயக் கார்களை அரசு எந்த வரியும் கட்டாமல் இறக்குமதி செய்தது என செய்திகள் தெரிவிக்கின்றன. அதைவிட மற்றவர்கள் கூற்றுப்படி எப்படி அரச சம்பளத்தில் வாழ்க்கையை நடத்துபவர் (அவரது தந்தையாரும் அரச சம்பளத்தில் இருப்பவர்தான்) டொலர் 100 மில்லியனை கட்ட முடியும்? சண்டே லீடர் என்ற செய்தியேடு (06-03-2011) பிரபா கணேசன் சொன்னதாக ஒரு செய்தி வெளியிட்டது. பசில் இராசபக்சே கட்சி மாறினால் உருபா 20 மில்லியன் தனக்கும் இன்னொரு அய்க்கிய தேசியக் கட்சி உறுப்பினர் பி.ஏகாம்பரம் அவர்களுக்கும் தருவதாக வாக்களித்தார். அது அபிவிருத்திக்கு என்று சொல்லப்பட்டது என்பதுதான் அந்தச் செய்தி. 
தோழர் கே. ஏ. சுப்பிரமணியம் இலங்கை இடதுசாரி இயக்க வரலாற்றில் தனக்கென தனித்துவமான பங்களிப்பை வழங்கியவர். மூத்த இடதுசாரி தோழர்களான மு கார்த்திகேசு, ந. சண்முகதாசன் என்ற வரிசையில் வைத்து நோக்கப்பட வேண்டியவர். ஒருவகையில் முன்னவர்களின் தொடர்ச்சியாகவும் அதன் அடுத்த கட்ட பரிமாணமாகவும் திகழ்ந்தவர் கே.ஏ. சுப்பிரமணியம். ஆதிகார பீடத்தில் அமர்ந்திருக்கும் ஆதிக்க வர்க்கத்தினருக்கும் ஒடுக்குமுறையாளர்களுக்கு எதிராக ஓர் ஆர்ப்பரிப்பில் உண்மையின்-உழைக்கும் மக்களின் பக்கத்தில் நின்று போராடிய இத்தோழரின் கருத்துக்கள் சிந்தனைகள் செயற்பாடுகள் என்பன இன்று வரை பல விதங்களில் தாக்கம் செலுத்தி வருகின்றன. இருப்பினும் இவர் பற்றி வெளிவந்த நினைவு மலரைத் தவிர அவர் பற்றி காத்திரமான ஆய்வுகள் ஏதும் வந்ததாகத் தெரியவில்லை. என்னைப் பொறுத்த மட்டில் அத் தோழரோடு நேரடியாக பழக கூடிய சந்தர்ப்பங்கள் ஏதும் கிடைக்காத போதினும் அவரால் எழுதப்பட்டு ,செம்மைப்படுத்தப்பட்ட "தாயகம்"",செம்பதாகை", புதியபூமி" போன்றவற்றின் ஆசிரிய தலையங்கங்களும் ,சில கடிதங்களும் பார்வைக்கு கிட்டின. மேலும் அவரால் வளர்த்தெடுக்கப்பட்ட இடதுசாரி தோழர்கள் அவரது குடும்பத்தினர் மற்றும் அவரது ஆளுமையின் செல்வாக்குட்பட்டவர்கள் என்போரின் கருத்துக்களைக் கொண்டு அவரை அறிய முடிந்தது.

World Bank population data from Sri Lanka indicates up to a hundred thousand Tamils are unaccounted for after the final war against the Tamil Tiger rebels in 2009, raising questions about whether they could be dead. A UN report cited a death toll of forty thousand for the climax of the war in 2009 but a UN internal inquiry last month acknowledged for the first time that up to seventy thousand civilian deaths were possible. The leaked World Bank spreadsheets broken down by village for the north of the island estimate numbers of returnees to the former conflict area in mid 2010. The Bank also cites Statistical Handbook Numbers for population in 2007 – before the fighting intensified. The two sets of data reveal 101,748 people missing from Mullaitivu District – the area that bore the brunt of the final fighting. This is the equivalent of 28,899 households. This number has been confirmed to me by the World Bank, though they add “other interpretations about the population data that are not included in the document can not be attributed to the World Bank”. A similar conclusion about the missing population can be drawn when comparing the 2010 World Bank data with census numbers from 2006. The latter were the result of a joint government and rebel head count in the area. Sceptics might argue the 2006 figures were probably exaggerated by the Tigers and local officials close to them in order to secure more aid. However exactly the same argument could be made for inflating numbers in 2010, which were similarly used for allocating aid.
The Janata Vimukti Peramuna (JVP) was proscribed by the UNP government after the Black July of 1983. It was one of the classic examples of unethical political expediency of putting the blame for the riots on the JVP though the UNP itself was responsible for perpetrating violence on Tamil people in the south. JVP founder leader Rohana Wijeweera and other members went underground. An unprecedented spate of violence followed till 1988-89 at the instance of the JVP as well as the R.Premadasa UNP regime of the time. Rohana Wijeweera disguised as a proprietary planter lived at a tea plantation near Gampola under an alias “Aththanayaka” for a few years. On a tip off from a former JVP member he was arrested and brought to Colombo on the evening of November 13, 1989, without the media and the public being made aware of it. The secret operation was known only to the Deputy Defense Minister Ranajan Wijeratne and a few senior army officers and probably to the then President R.Premadasa. Wijeweera was shot in cold blood after his arrest and he was thrown into the crematorium chamber while he was still alive, but hardly conscious at the time and was cremated alive. Unknown to the senior and junior army officers there remained a single member of the JVP Indrananda Silva from Polonnaruwa who witnessed the crime and he related the tale to The Nation after all these years.

Ottawa, November 30, 2012 — Canada’s new asylum system, which was included in the Protecting Canada’s Immigration System Act, will come into force on December 15, 2012, Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney announced today. “Our changes will make Canada’s asylum system faster and fairer,” said Minister Kenney. “For too long, Canada’s generous asylum system has been vulnerable to abuse. Under the new asylum system, genuine refugees fleeing persecution will receive protection more quickly. At the same time, bogus asylum claimants and those who abuse our generous system at great expense to taxpayers, will be removed much faster.” All eligible asylum claimants will continue to receive a hearing at the independent Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB) based on their individual circumstances. Under the new system, asylum claimants will receive a hearing within 60 days after their claim is referred to the IRB. In contrast, claimants currently wait, on average, close to 600 days to receive a hearing.

More than a million people have signed the I am Malala petition and others like it on behalf of the 32 million girls in Pakistan and elsewhere who have no access to schooling, reports Gordon Brown, the former British prime minister and United Nations special envoy for global education. The UN declared Nov. 10 Malala Day in her honour, to highlight the needs of school-age girls around the world. Because of her the Pakistani government is offering the families of poor children a small stipend to send them to primary school.

The Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, leads Ontarians in mourning the death of Ontario’s 24th Lieutenant Governor (1985–1991), the Honourable Lincoln Alexander. He is survived by his son, Keith, and second wife, Mrs. Marni Alexander. When Lincoln Alexander entered the Lieutenant Governor’s Suite for the first time in 1985, he might have paused for just a moment. He was, after all, about to enter not just a new and imposing office, but also an important phase of his own life—and in Ontario’s history. He was a man accustomed to breaking new ground: he became the first black person installed as the Queen’s representative in Ontario. Born in 1922 in Toronto, he was the son of West Indian immigrants—his father a railway porter and his mother a maid. Alexander served with the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War. In 1948 he married Yvonne Harrison, who remained a pillar of strength for her extraordinary husband until her death in 1999. Alexander was educated at McMaster University, and later went on to study law at Osgoode Hall. Elected as an MP for Hamilton West in 1968, he was Canada’s first black person elected to the House of Commons. He remained there for 12 years. He made history again in his final year in Parliament, when he became Canada’s first black cabinet minister, having been appointed Minister of Labour.

A shockingly vulgar cartoon published by a Sri Lankan newspaper featuring Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa and the prime minister Manmohan Singh in extremely bad taste is yet another instance of the proxy-speak of the island nation that should ideally provoke a tough reply from India. On Sunday, Lakbima, a well-circulated Sinhala language daily in Sri Lanka, published a cartoon lampooning both Jayalalithaa and Manmohan Singh, ostensibly peeved at the recent tensions between Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka, where a school football team was sent back, and a number of Sri Lankan pilgrims in the state came under attack. The cartoon, gross and nasty, has created some ripples in Sri Lanka as well, but the government of India is yet to react. Presidential spokesman Bandula Jayasekera reacted on Twitter saying that the government did not condone the ‘vulgar’ cartoon, but there has been no official reprimand from the Sri Lankan government, and one of the employees of the newspaper has defended the cartoon, saying they were merely exercising their right to free speech.
- 25 August 2012 - Global Tamil Forum condemns Sri Lankan Government’s indefinite closure of 13 of the 15 state-run universities on the island, in response to strikes over privatisation of the higher education system, politicisation of key appointments in the sector and military training of all university entrants. This latest act to undermine academic freedom and institutional autonomy is a continuation of heavy militarisation of the island to maintain social control and curb any democratic opposition. Denial of university places for qualified Tamil entrants through a discriminatory education policy in the 1970s was a major trigger of the Tamil youth rebellion. The Rajapaksa regime’s use of force and intimidation to rule the population threatens all forms of freedom for expression – the very foundation of democracy. Attacks on journalists, media establishments and human rights activists continue with widespread impunity to censor any criticism of the Government. Centralising powers to the President has already severely compromised the independence of the judicial system on the island and consequently there is breakdown in the rule of law. The UK foreign Office has last week issued a travel advisory warning British citizens of an upsurge in nationalism, sexual offense and anti-Western (particularly anti-British) rhetoric in Sri Lanka.

1. We have to distinguish between meaning and reference of a word. Ilam means "the land of toddy", but it refers to the island known as Ilam, Tambapanni, Ilankai, or Cinkalam. The lending of the two, usually results in endless and confused discussions. We should also distinguish between a translation and an explanation. When I write: "Ilam, 'land of toddy'", I translate. A translation focuses a lexical meaning (out of several possible). When I say "Ilam got its name 'land of toddy' because of its reputed toddy-production", I explain.

- August 1, 2012 - (Bangkok) – Burmese security forces committed killings, rape, and mass arrests against Rohingya Muslims after failing to protect both them and Arakan Buddhists during deadly sectarian violence in western Burma in June 2012. Government restrictions on humanitarian access to the Rohingya community have left many of the over 100,000 people displaced and in dire need of food, shelter, and medical care. The 56-page report, “‘The Government Could Have Stopped This’: Sectarian Violence and Ensuing Abuses in Burma’s Arakan State,” describes how the Burmese authorities failed to take adequate measures to stem rising tensions and the outbreak of sectarian violence in Arakan State. Though the army eventually contained the mob violence in the state capital, Sittwe, both Arakan and Rohingya witnesses told Human Rights Watch that government forces stood by while members from each community attacked the other, razing villages and committing an unknown number of killings. “Burmese security forces failed to protect the Arakan and Rohingya from each other and then unleashed a campaign of violence and mass roundups against the Rohingya,” said Brad Adams, Asia director at Human Rights Watch. “The government claims it is committed to ending ethnic strife and abuse, but recent events in Arakan State demonstrate that state-sponsored persecution and discrimination persist.”
1987ல் ஏற்படுத்தப்பட்டதும், ராஜீவ் - ஜெயவர்த்தனா ஒப்பந்தம் என அழைக்கப்படுவதுமான இந்திய - ஸ்ரீலங்கா உடன்படிக்கை ஜூலை 29 ந்திகதியுடன் 25வருடங்களை நிறைவு செய்கிறது. ஸ்ரீலங்கா (1987 – 90) மற்றும் 1971ல் பங்களாதேஷை உருவாக்கிய கிழக்குப் பாகிஸ்தான் ஆகிய இந்தியாவின் இரண்டு இராணுவத் தலையீடுகளிலும் ஆர்வத்துடன் பங்கேற்ற ஒரு இராணுவ வீரன் என்கிற வகையில் இந்த இரண்டு முயற்சிகளிலும் இந்தியாவின் அதிகார சக்தியின் வலியுறுத்தலை ஒப்பீடு செய்ய முடியாதவனாக உள்ளேன். இரண்டு அரங்குகளிலும் மற்றும் அந்த நேரத்தில் அந்த இரண்டு நடவடிக்கைகளின் போதுள்ள இந்தியாவின் நிலைப்பாட்டிலும் முற்றான வேறுபாடு இருந்தது. பங்களாதேஷை பொறுத்தமட்டில் நன்கு பயிற்றப்பட்ட இராணுவமான பாகிஸ்தானுடன் நடத்தும் மரபுவழி யுத்தமாக இருந்தது. அதில் இறங்குவதற்கு முன்னர் பலத்த இராணுவ திட்டங்களையும் மற்றும் தயாரிப்புகளையும் இந்தியா மேற்கொண்டிருந்தது. அதற்கு முரண்பாடாக ஸ்ரீலங்காவில் இராணுவம் ஆயத்தமில்லாத நிலையில் இருந்தபடியால் தமிழ் கிளர்ச்சியாளர்களுடன் எதிர்க்கிளர்ச்சித் தாக்குதலில் சிக்கிக்கொள்ள நேர்ந்தது. பங்களாதேஷில் படைகளின் நிலை மிகவும் உயர் மட்டத்தில் இருந்தது. விமானப்படைகளும் மற்றும் கடற்படையினரும் ஒட்டுமொத்த தாக்குதல் திட்டத்திலும் ஒரு பகுதியாகச் செயற்பட்டன. ஸ்ரீலங்காவில் முக்கியமாக அது தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் புலிகளுக்கு எதிரான பரவலாக்கப்பட்ட ஒரு காலாட்படை நடவடிக்கையாக இருந்தது.
[ July 24, 2012 ] Many things are said about Black July, 1983. That there were many culprits who caused the havoc that virtually destroyed the image of Sri Lanka and which gave justification for a prolonged period of violence. However, there was one man who was the creator of this havoc. It was then-President of the country, Junius Richard Jayawardene. His work of destroying the fabric of Sri Lankan democracy started from the very first day after he won the election as the leader of the United National Party, in 1977. His very first act as the Prime Minister elect was to grant a “holiday to the police”. That holiday lasted for two or three weeks. That was the first act done to intimidate his political opponents. With an ambition to hold onto power and not to give up what he had won, he knew one of his major strategies needed to be to launch a period of violence in order not to allow space for internal challenges from disaffected democratic forces. That process went on through various kinds of initiatives, which are well-recorded. The 1982 referendum was a major assault he made on the electoral politics in Sri Lanka. He was seriously pursuing his ambition to “close the electoral map” of Sri Lanka for some time.
- ஜூலை 24, 2012 - இலங்கை சிறைச்சாலை ஒன்றில் தாக்குதலுக்கு உள்ளாகி, அதனால் மரணடைந்ததாகத் தெரிவிக்கப்படுகின்ற அரசியல் கைதி நிமலரூபனின் உடல் வவுனியாவில் அடக்கம் செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது. வவுனியாச் சிறைச்சாலையில் சில கண்காணிபாளர்களை கைதிகள் தாக்கினார்கள் என்று எழுந்த குற்றச்சாட்டை அடுத்து பலர் மகர சிறைச்சாலைக்கு மாற்றப்பட்டனர். அங்கு இவர்கள் தாக்குதலுக்கு உள்ளானதாகவும், சிகிச்சைக்காக ராகம வைத்தியசாலைக்கு கொண்டு செல்லப்பட்ட போது, நிமலரூபன் இறந்த நிலையிலேயே கொண்டுவரப்பட்டார் என்றும் மருத்துவர்கள் தெரிவித்தனர். மரணமடைந்த நிமலரூபன் அடிகாயங்ளினாலும், உரிய சிகிச்சையில்லாமலுமே உயிரிழக்க நேரிட்டதாக தமிழ் அரசியல்வாதிகளும், மனித உரிமைச் செயற்பாட்டாளர்களும் குற்றம் சுமத்தியிருந்தனர். அவரின் மரணம் தொடர்பான விசாரணைகள் நடைபெற்ற போதிலும் மரணத்திற்கான காரணம் இன்னும் வெளியிடப்படவில்லை.
'It is now crystal clear that the Sinhala leaders will never put forward a just resolution to the Tamil national question. Therefore, we are not prepared to place our trust in the impossible and walk along the same old futile path…. We therefore ask the international community and the countries of the world that respect justice to recognize our freedom struggle.” This is the key sections of the annual Heroes’ Day statement delivered by the slain leader of the disabled Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), V. Pirapaharan. Serious Sri Lanka watchers would agree that such a statement represents not only the Tamil disappointments and distrust, but also it effectively exposes the duplicity of five decades old southern Sinhalese politics, which categorically refused to do meaningful political business with the Tamil leaders who represent the North and East Tamils. Moderates The Tamil Tigers, who mirrored the Sinhala political establishment in its dealing with dissent and pluralism, unquestionably are the deadly elements of the Sri Lanka society. Whether the Tamil Tigers, for that matter, violent Tamil nationalists are freedom fighters as they claim themselves or deadly terrorists as the Sri Lanka governments describe, history will answer it. My point here is that the birth of Tamil Tiger movement had roots in Sri Lanka’s history and its anti-Tamil agendas. It is important to point that there was not an overnight decision among the ordinary Tamils to approve the agendas of the Tamil Tigers: the failure of Sri Lankan polity to meet the demands of the Tamil moderates was a key foundation for the origin of the Tamil extremism in Sri Lanka. Instead of listening to the Tamil leaders and accommodating their reasonable demands, the Sinhalese ruling leaders of the time assaulted and stoned the Tamils and their leaders, and even hired the Sinhalese to become butchers to kill innocent Tamils and moderate leaders. One needs to realize that successive governments since 1956 controlled by the Sinhalese miserably failed to engage the Tamil moderates such as the Federal Party (FP).
Jul 10, 2012 - Over 600 Sri Lankan Tamils have perished in the Indian Ocean sailing from the south Indian coast in sea-unworthy boats for greener pastures in Australia and Canada, says S.C. Chandrahasan, who heads the OfERR (Organisation for Ealam Refugees Rehabilitation), quoting from reliable statistics. He must know since he has been efficiently running OfERR to take care of the thousands of the Tamil refugees who fled from the war zone in north Lanka since early 80s. “Families of these missing people have approached us pleading for help to locate them. The situation is tragic and hopeless. It is also hugely embarrassing because these boat people have been tutored by their unscrupulous agents to tell the Australian authorities that they were being treated very badly in the Indian refugees camps and so they had to flee to seek asylum, whereas the truth is that the Indian and Tamil Nadu governments have done a lot for us”, says Chandrahasan, whose father was the iconic Tamil leader in Sri Lanka known as Eezha Thanthai Chelva. “And a recent boat seizure found some Afghans too among the Sri Lankan Tamils”, he adds.

- தமிழர்களுக்குச் சொந்தமான நாட்டில் சிங்கள இராணுவ ஆட்சி நீக்கமற நிறைந்துள்ளதாகத் தெரிவிக்கும் வோஷிங்டன் போஸ்ட் செய்தியாளர் சைமன் டெனியர் (Simon Denyer of Washington Post, July 06, 2012) யாழ்ப்பாணத்தில் இருந்து அண்மையில் அனுப்பி வைத்த செய்தியில் "நாட்டின் வடபகுதியில் தோட்டம் மற்றும் காய்கறி விற்பனை, 'ஹொட்டல்'களை நடத்தல், உணவகங்களை நடத்தல், ஏன் முடிதிருத்தும் கடைகளை நடத்துதல் போன்ற பொருளியல் வாழ்க்கையின் ஒவ்வொரு துறையிலும் இராணுவத்தினர் ஈடுபட்டுள்ளார்கள்" என்கிறார். அவர் அனுப்பிய செய்தியின் முழு வடிவம் கீழே கொடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. -
தமிழர் தாயகத்தில் வாழும் தமிழ்மக்கள் மீது சிறீலங்கா அரசு தொடுத்திருக்கும் இனவழிப்பை நிறுத்துமாறும் தமிழர் நில அபகரிப்பை எதிர்த்தும் தாயக மக்களின் போராட்டத்துக்கு வலுவூட்டும் வகையிலும் நேற்று செவ்வாய்க் கிழமை 36 எக்லின்டன் மேற்கு வீதியில் அமைந்திருக்கும் சிறீலங்கா துணைத் தூதுவராலயத்தின் முன் நூற்றுக் கணக்கான தமிழ் மக்கள் கைகளில் முழக்க அட்டைகளைப் பிடித்த வண்ணம் கொளுத்தும் வெய்யிலிலும் கூடி நின்று தமது எதிர்ப்பை வெளிக்காட்டினர். பாதுகாப்புக்காக சிறீலங்கா துணைத் தூதுவராலயம் அமைந்திருக்கும் கட்டிடத்தின் முன் பெருமளவிலான ஓன்ரேறியோ காவல்துறையினர் குவிக்கப்பட்டிருந்தனர். "தயவுசெய்து இலங்கைத் தமிழர்களுக்கு எதிராக அவர்கள் பிறந்த நாட்டில் இடம்பெறும் நிலப்பறிப்பையும் பண்பாட்டுப் படுகொலையையும் தடுத்து நிறுத்தங்கள்" (Please Help to Prevent Land Grab and Cultural Genocide of Sri Lankan Thamils in their own Country of Birth) என்று எழுதப்பட்ட பெரிய பதாதைகள் ஆர்ப்பாட்டத்தில் காணப்பட்டன.
On June 20, 1868, a proclamation signed by the Governor General, Lord Monck, called upon all Her Majesty's loving subjects throughout Canada to join in the celebration of the anniversary of the formation of the union of the British North America provinces in a federation under the name of Canada on July 1st. The July 1 holiday was established by statute in 1879, under the name Dominion Day. There is no record of organized ceremonies after this first anniversary, except for the 50th anniversary of Confederation in 1917, at which time the new Centre Block of the Parliament Buildings, under construction, was dedicated as a memorial to the Fathers of Confederation and to the valour of Canadians fighting in the First World War in Europe. The next celebration was held in 1927 to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Confederation. It was highlighted by the laying of the cornerstone by the Governor General of the Confederation Building on Wellington Street and the inauguration of the Carillon in the Peace Tower. Since 1958, the government has arranged for an annual observance of Canada's national day with the Secretary of State of Canada in charge of the coordination. The format provided for a Trooping the Colours ceremony on the lawn of Parliament Hill in the afternoon, a sunset ceremony in the evening followed by a mass band concert and fireworks display.
June 21, 2012, Ottawa, Ontario- Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement to mark National Aboriginal Day: “Today we celebrate the rich and diverse culture of our country’s Aboriginal peoples and reflect upon the important role they have played and continue to play in shaping modern-day Canada. “Aboriginal peoples have made immense contributions to our nation. First Nations fought as allies in the War of 1812 and in every major conflict since, and their cultures and traditions continue to be an integral part of Canadian identity. The enduring relationship between the Government of Canada and First Nations is one based on mutual respect, friendship and support, and we are committed to working towards deepening this bond. “Our Government has made strengthening this relationship a priority. For instance, in 2008 we issued an historic apology to former students of Indian Residential Schools, and in 2010, we endorsed the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous peoples. In January of this year, we also participated alongside First Nations in the historic Crown-First Nations Gathering to set the context for renewed collaboration.

June 14, 2012, 6:29 pm- ‘President Rajapaksa is in a hell of a predicament also because as the Commander in Chief of the Military, he is alleged to have committed war crimes and crimes against humanity. With mounting evidence, he is trying to negotiate, perhaps barter justice with a political solution as he knows that the day he relinquishes his position as head of state, he is likely to be arrested just as Charles Taylor of Liberia or Milosevic of former Yugoslavia.’ While the LTTE was retreating rapidly on the Vanni east front, following a debilitating setback at Kilinochchi in the first week of January, 2009, the Tamil Diaspora groups emerged as its successor. The UK-based Global Tamil Forum (GTF) is now at the forefront of an internationally backed campaign to haul Sri Lankan leaders up before an international war crimes tribunal over accountability issues. The GTF displayed its power when President Mahinda Rajapaksa visited London at the invitation of the UK, to participate in the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations recently.

[June 8, 2012 } On the eve of the Presidents visit to the UK to attend the Queens Diamond Jubilee, Gotabaya in his usual finger wagging style told the BBC that the north cannot be recognised as a “Tamil” region. In the run up to the first Presidential election, Mahinda Rajapakse told his Sinhala Buddhist electorate that he is from the “south”. Was he not indicating that he was from the Deep South, which is hard line Sinhalese? By denying that the North is a Tamil region, the Rajapakse’s are denying to the Tamils, what the Sinhalese take for granted in their perceptions of the Deep South and elsewhere. The “Tamil” identity of the North is no different to the Kandyan identity of the central highlands or the Rohona identity of the South. It is folly to deny them, as they are deep-rooted identities, which are embedded in the psyche of the different communities that inhabit this island. It was the Kandyans who first wanted federalism. The response one could expect in denying the “Tamil” identity of the North is no different to the response the Rajapakse’s could expect, if they were to deny the “Kandyan” identity of the highlands.

[Tuesday 5 June 20128:08 pm] A meeting in the City of London, due to have been addressed on Wednesday morning by the president of Sri Lanka, has been cancelled, owing to concerns over policing amid the threat of large demonstrations by Tamil rights groups. But Mahinda Rajapakse – whose presidency has been tainted by persistent allegations of war crimes committed by Sri Lankan armed forces – will still attend a lunch for the Queen, hosted by the Commonwealth secretary general at Marlborough House on Pall Mall. The president was first to have given the keynote speech at a special Diamond Jubilee meeting of the Commonwealth Economic Forum, at 10am. On its website, the event’s organisers, the Commonwealth Business Council, simply states that “After careful consideration, the morning sessions of the Forum… will not take place.” It had pre-sold tickets to the event at £795 +VAT each. Channel 4 News was unable to obtain a response from the CBC. A spokesman for Scotland Yard told Channel 4 News that while it had agreed to guarantee the president’s security, the CBC had “decided it was not in their interest to stage the event” due to excessive policing requirements and the likely disruption to business in the City of London.
முள்ளிவாய்க்கால் மூன்றாமாண்டினை உலகத் தமிழினம் நினைவேந்தி வரும் இவ்வேளையில் , சுதந்திர தமிழீழம் நோக்கிய ஈழத்தமிழர்களின் நியாயமான போராட்டத்தினை வென்றெடுப்பதற்குரிய, ஒருங்கிணைந்த செயற்பாடுகளுக்கு நாடுகடந்த தமிழீழ அரசாங்கமும் , உலகத் தமிழர் பேரவையும் சில உடன்பாடுகளை எட்டியுள்ளதாக நா.த.அரசாங்கத்தின் செயலகம் தெரிவித்துள்ளது. நாடுகடந்த தமிழீழ அரசாங்கத்தின் பிரதமர் விசுவநாதன் உருத்திரகுமாரன் மற்றும் உலகத் தமிழர் பேரவையின் தலைவர் வண. கலாநிதி எஸ்.ஜே.இம்மானுவல் அடிகள் ஆகியோர் , இவ்விடயம் தொடர்பில் கூட்டறிக்கையொன்றினை வெளியிட்டுள்ளனர். ஒருங்கிணைந்த செயற்பாடுகள் குறித்து நாடு கடந்த தமிழீழ அரசாங்கத்தினதும் உலகத் தமிழர் பேரவையினதும் பிரதிநிதிகள் கடந்த 13, 14 ஆம் திகதிகளில் அமெரிக்காவின் சான்பிரான்ஸிஸ்க்கோ நகரில் ஒன்றுகூடி, பல விடயங்களை விரிவாக ஆராய்ந்ததோடு சில உடன்பாடுகளையும் எட்டியுள்ளனர் அவ்வறிக்கையில் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

மே 19, 2009 அன்று கொழும்பில் இருந்தேன். வீட்டிற்கு வெளியே ஒரே ஆரவாரமாக இருந்தது. போரின் முடிவையும் பிரபாகரனின் மரணத்தையும் சிங்கள மக்கள் அமோகமாகக் கொண்டாடிக் கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். போரின்போது தமிழ் மக்கள் பட்ட அவலங்கள் குறித்தோ பேரழிவு குறித்தோ அவர்களில் மிகப் பெரும்பாலானோர்க்கு எவ்விதமான அக்கறையும் இருக்கவில்லை. அன்று முழுவதும் வீட்டைவிட்டு வெளியேறவில்லை. நிச்சயமின்மையும் புது வகையான பீதியும் இலங்கையைச் சூழ்ந்துகொள்கிற புதிய காலகட்டம் ஒன்றுக்குள் நாங்கள் நுழைவதான உணர்வு எனக்கு ஏற்பட்டது. வழமையாக ராவய இதழுக்கு எழுதும் பத்திக்கென அன்று நான் எழுதிய கட்டுரையின் தலைப்பு ‘மே, 19’ என்பதாகும். அந்தக் கட்டுரையில் மிகவும் தெளிவாக நான் குறிப்பிட்டிருந்ததை இந்தக் கணம் நினைவுகொள்வது மிகவும் பொருத்தமானது எனக் கருதுகிறேன். “போர் முடிந்துவிட்டிருக்கலாம்; ஆனால் தமிழ் மக்களின் போராட்டம் இன்னும் முடிந்துவிடவில்லை.” அந்தப் பத்தியின் இறுதிப் பகுதியில் மூன்று விடயங்களைக் குறிப்பிட்டிருந்தேன்.![ஜூட் லால் பெர்ணாண்டோ டப்ளின் டிரினிட்டி கல்லூரியைச் சார்ந்த ஐரிஸ் ஸ்கூல் ஆஃப் எக்குமெனிக்ஸில் அமைதி மற்றும் இணக்க மேம்படுத்தல் துறையில் உயராய்வு மேற்கொள்வதோடு அங்கு விரிவுரையாளராகவும் பணியாற்றுகிறார். இலங்கையின் களனியிலுள்ள துலானா என்னும் மதம் சார்பான உரையாடல் மற்றும் ஆராய்ச்சி மையத்தின் உறுப்பினர். டிரினிட்டி கல்லூரியில் 2010இல் இலங்கைக்கான மக்கள் தீர்ப்பாயத்தை ஒருங்கிணைத்தவர்.]](/pathivukalnew/images/stories/jlfernando.jpg)
மக்கள்திரள்மீதான வன்கொடுமைகள் (mass atrocity) பற்றிய எடுத்துரைப்புகள் (representations) சர்வதேசச் சட்டத்தின் வரையறைகளுக்கு ஏற்பப் போர்க்குற்றங்கள், மானிடத்திற்கெதிரான குற்றங்கள், இன அழிப்பு ஆகிய அடிப்படைகளில் வகைப்படுத்தல்களுக்கு உள்ளாக்கப்படுகின்றன. எனினும் இந்தக் கோட்பாட்டுரீதியான வகைப்படுத்தல்கள் குறிப்பிட்ட அரசியல், கருத்தியல் களங்களிலேயே பிரயோகிக்கப்படுவதால் அந்தக் களங்கள் விமர் சனத்திற்குள்ளாக்கப்பட்டு இலங்கையில் இடம்பெற்ற வன்கொடுமைகள் பற்றிய உண்மைகளைக் கூறும் முழுமையான எடுத்துரைப்பு ஒன்று எட்டப்பட வேண்டும். இந்த வன்கொடுமைகள் பற்றிய எடுத்துரைப்புகளை நோக்கினால், எவ்வாறு உண்மைகள் நோக்கப்படுகின்றன என்பதையும், நீதி, புனரமைப்பு (justice and recovery) பற்றிய எதிர்பார்ப்புகள் எவ்வாறு அமைகின்றன என்பதையும் சித்தாந்தம்தான் முடிவுசெய்கிறது என்பதை இந்தக் கட்டுரை நிறுவ முற்படுகிறது. இந்தப் பணியைச் சந்தேகக் கண்ணோடு அணுகுவது அரசியல் சிந்தனையில் மிகச் சரியான எடுத்துரைப்பு வெளிப்படவும் நீதிக்கும் புனரமைப்புக்குமான விசாலமான முன்னெடுப்புகளை அடையாளங்காட்டவும் உதவும்.
ஈழத்தமிழர்களின் விடுதலைப் போராட்ட வரலாற்றில் எஸ்.சபாலிங்கத்துக்கு முக்கியமானதொரு பங்குண்டு. ஈழ விடுதலைப் போராட்ட வரலாற்றில் ஆரம்பத்தில் தன்னைப் பிணைத்துக்கொண்டவர் இவர். எழுபதுகளின் ஆரம்பத்தில் கட்டுபெத்தை பொறியியல் தொழில்நுட்பக் கல்லூரியில் மாணவனாகவிருந்த சமயம் பொன்னுத்துரை சத்தியசீலன் போன்றவர்களுடன் இணைந்து தமிழ் மாணவர் பேரவை அமைப்பு உருவாகக் காரணமானவர்களிலொருவர். விடுதலைப் புலிகளின் அமைப்பு உருவான காலகட்டத்தில் விடுதலைப் புலிகள் தலைவர் வே.பிரபாகரனுடன் நெருங்கிப் பழகியவர்களிலொருவர். இவற்றின் காரணமாக இலங்கைக் காவற்துறையினரால் கைது செய்யப்பட்டு, சித்திரவதைகளுக்குப் புகழ்பெற்று விளங்கிய இலங்கைப் புலனாய்வுத்துறையினரின் 4ஆம் மாடியில் வைத்து விசாரிக்கப்பட்டுக் கடுமையான சித்திரவதைகளுக்குள்ளாகியவர். பின்னர் அரசியல் அகதியாகப் புலம்பெயர்ந்து பாரிசில் வசித்து வந்த சமயத்திலும் பதிப்புத் துறை, இலக்கிய அமர்வுகளை நடாத்துவதிலும் தன் கவனத்தைத் திருப்பினார். தனது ஆசியான் பதிப்பகம் மூலம் ஈழத்துக் கவிஞர்களான வ.ஐ.ச.ஜெயபாலன், சேரன், அருந்ததி, செல்வம், சோலைக்கிளி ஆகியோரின் கவிதைத் தொகுதிகளை வெளியிட்டார். கோவிந்தனின் 'புதியதோர் உலகம்', 'யாழ்ப்பாண வைபவமாலை', 'புத்தளம் முஸ்லீம் மக்கள் வரலாறு', 'எமர்ஜென்சி 58' மற்றும் தராகியின் 'Eluding Peace' ஆகிய நூல்களை வெளியிட்டார். புலம்பெயர்ந்த தமிழர்கள் மத்தியில் நடைபெற்றுவரும் இலக்கியச் சந்திப்புக்களின் ஆரம்பகர்த்தாக்களிலொருவராகவும் இவர் கருதப்படுகின்றார்.
- மே 8, 2012 - தோழர், அமைச்சர் இராதாகிறிஷ்ணா (றோய்) படையாட்சி அவர்களின் மறைவை அறிந்து நாம் கடும் அதிர்ச்சியும் ஆறாத் துயரமும் அடைந்துள்ளோம். அன்னார், மனித மேம்பாட்டுச் செயல்வீரனக விளங்கியதோடு வறியோருக்கும் மிக ஒடுக்கப்பட்டோருக்கும் உதவும் பணிக்குத் தன்னை முழுமையாக அர்ப்பணித்திருந்தார். அன்னாரின் மறைவானது அவரது குடும்பத்தினருக்கும் அவரது மக்களுக்கும் உலகளாவிய மட்டத்தில் அவரின் தூரப்பார்வை, அர்ப்பணிப்பு, கருணையுள்ளம் ஆகியவற்றால் ஈர்க்கப்பட்டோருக்கும் உண்மையிலேயே ஒரு பேரிழப்பாகும். குடியரசுத் தலைவர் சூமா அவர்கள் மிக அழகாக எடுத்துரைத்தது போன்று, “படையாட்சி அளவிடமுடியாத அற்பணிப்பையும் ஆளுமையையும் பெற்ற ஒருவர். சிறப்புமிக்க ஆபிரிக்காவையும் உலகத்தையும் உருவாக்கும் தன் குறிக்கோளுக்காக வாழ்நாள் முழுவதையும் அர்ப்பணித்துப் புறப்பட்ட பயணத்தில் அவர் தன் தலைவிதியையும் சாவினையும் சந்திக்க நேர்ந்தது மிகவும் கவலை அளிக்கின்றது.”

மே தினம் எனப்படும் உலகத் தொழிலாளர் தினம் ஆண்டுதோறும் மே முதலாம் திகதி (மே 1) உலகளாவிய ரீதியில் கொண்டாடப்படுவதாகும். தொழிலாளர் போராட்டம்18ஆம் நூற்றாண்டின் இறுதியிலும் - 19ஆம் நூற்றாண்டின் ஆரம்பத்திலும் வேகமாக வளர்ச்சியடைந்த நாடுகளில் தொழிலாளிகள் பலரும் நாளொன்றுக்கு 12 முதல் 18 மணி நேரக் கட்டாய வேலை செய்ய நிர்ப்பந்திக்கப்பட்டனர். இதற்கெதிரான குரல்களும் பல்வேறு நாடுகளில் ஆங்காங்கே எழத் துவங்கியது. இதில் குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது இங்கிலாந்தில் தோன்றிய சாசன இயக்கம் (chartists). சாசன இயக்கம் 6 முக்கிய கோரிக்கைகளை முன்வைத்து தொடர் இயக்கங்களை நடத்தியது. அதில் குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது 10 மணி நேர வேலை கோரிக்கை. பிரான்சில் தொழிலாளர் இயக்கம்1830களில் பிரான்சில் நெசவுத் தொழிலில் ஈடுபட்டிருந்த தொழிலாளிகள் தினமும் கட்டாயமாக 15 மணி நேரம் உழைக்க வேண்டி இருந்தனர். இதை எதிர்த்து அவர்கள் பெரும் வேலை நிறுத்தப் போராட்டத்தை நடத்தினர். 1834இல் ஜனநாயகம் அல்லது மரணம் என்ற கோஷத்தை முன்வைத்து பெரும் கிளர்ச்சியில் ஈடுபட்டனர். இவையனைஇத்தும் தோல்வியில் முடிவடைந்தன.
தளரா நெஞ்சம். மருத்துவமனை கண்டிராத உடல். செருப்பணியாத கால்கள். திருமணமாகாத வாழ்க்கை. 1970 முதலாகக் காய்கறி உணவு. முகத்தை மூடும் வெள்ளை மீசையும் தாடியும். 88 வயதிலும் இரு மாடிகளுக்கும் படியேறி என் வீட்டுக்கு இன்று, புலர் காலை 0600 மணிக்கு வந்தவர், பெரியார் எசு. ஏ. தாவீது என நான் அழைக்க விரும்பும் எஸ். ஏ. டேவிட். 1970களில் வவுனியாவில் காந்தீயம் அமைப்புத் தொடங்கிய காலங்கள். மலைநாட்டில் துணை மருத்துவப் பணிகளில் ஈடுபட்டிருந்த இராசசுந்தரம், கொழும்பில் என்னிடம் வருவார். அவருடன் டேவிட் ஐயாவும் வருவார். கொழும்பு வைஎம்சீஏ விடுதியில் டேவிட் ஐயா தங்கியிருப்பார். அந்தக் கட்டட வரைபடத்தைத் தயாரித்துக் கொடுத்ததால், அதற்குக் கட்டணம் வாங்காததால், அவருக்கு எப்பொழுதும் அங்கே ஓர் அறை. 1972 இலங்கை அரசியலமைப்பு, அதைத் தொடர்ந்த தமிழர் நிலை, இவை எம்மை இணைக்கும் பாலம். மலைநாட்டுத் தமிழரை வன்னியில் குடியேற்றும் காந்தியத்தின் முயற்சி. இராசசுந்தரம், டேவிட் இருவரின் இடையறா ஈடுபாடு, இதில் என் சிறிய பங்களிப்பு. 1977 இனக் கலவரத்துடன் கொழும்பைவிட்டு வெளியேறினேன். யாழ்ப்பாணத்தில் 1978இல் தந்தை செல்வா நினைவுத் தூண் கட்டியெழுப்பும் குழுவின் செயலாளராக நான். திராவிடத் தூணாக 80அடி உயரத்தில் அமையும் வரைபடத்தைத் தந்தவர் வி. எஸ். துரைராசா. மொட்டையாக நிற்காமல் கூம்பாக்கிக் கலசத்தில் முடிக்குமாறு டேவிட் ஐயா கருத்துரைத்தால் 100 அடியாக அத் தூண் உயர்ந்தது. கட்டி முடிக்கும் வரை யாழ்ப்பாணத்தில் இருந்தேன்.
இலங்கை தமிழ் மக்களின் பிரச்சினைக்கு அரசியல் தீர்வு காண்பதில் இந்தியா மிக தீவிரமாக உள்ளது என இலங்கைக்கு விஜயம் மேற்கொண்ட இந்திய நாடாளுமன்ற தூதுக்குழுவின் தலைவியான சுஷ்மா ஸ்வராஜ் கூறினார். இந்திய நாடாளுமன்றத் தூதுக்குழுவின் இலங்கை விஜயத்தின் இறுதியில் இன்று சனிக்கிழமை கொழும்பில் நடைபெற்ற செய்தியாளர் மாநாட்டிலேயே சுஷ்மா ஸ்வராஜ் தெரிவித்தார். அரசியல் தீர்வு விடயத்தில் நாம் மிக மிக தீவிரமாக இருக்கிறோம்' எனக் கூறிய அவர், அரசாங்கமும் தமிழ் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பும் இயன்றவரை விரைவாக பேச்சுவார்த்தையை ஆரம்பிக்க வேண்டும் எனவும் கூறினார். வடக்கில் இடம்பெயர்ந்த மக்களை மீளக்குடியேற்றுவதில் முன்னேற்றம் ஏற்பட்டுள்ளதாக கூறிய அவர், எனினும் குறிப்பிடத்தக்க எண்ணிக்கையான மக்கள் இன்னும் இடைத்தங்கல் முகாம்களிலும் உறவினர், நண்பர்கள் வீடுகளிலும் தங்கியுள்ளதாக தெரிவித்தார். 'அம்மக்கள் தமது வீடுகளுக்குத் திரும்பும்வரை எமது இலக்கு முடிவடையப்போவதில்லை' என அவர் கூறினார்.
[நண்பர் மீராபாரதி தனது முகநூலில் ஐயரின் 'ஈழப் போராட்டத்தில் எனது பதிவுகள்' நூல் பற்றி எழுதிய பதிவினை 'பதிவுகள்' வாசகர்களுடன் பகிர்ந்து கொள்கின்றது. - பதிவுகள்] ஈழ விடுதலைப் போராட்டம் தொடர்பான அனுபவங்களின் பதிவுகளாக, நினைவுக் குறிப்புகளாக, புனைவுகளாக, சுயசரிதைகளாக, ஆய்வுகளாக சில நூல்களே வெளிவந்திருக்கின்றன. இவ்வாறு வெளிவந்தவற்றில் பலவற்றை சசீவன் தனது வலைப்பதிவில் குறிப்பிட்டிருக்கின்றார். அவையாவன, அருளரின் லங்காராணி, கோவிந்தனின் புதியதோர் உலகம், சி. புஸ்பராஜாவின் ஈழப்போராட்டத்தில் எனது சாட்சியம், செழியனின் ஒரு மனிதனின் நாட்குறிப்பிலிருந்து, அடேல் பாலசிங்கம் சுதந்திர வேட்கை, நேசனின் புளொட்டில் இருந்து தீப்பொறி வரையான எனது பதிவுகள், சீலனின் புளொட்டில் நான், அன்னபூரணாவின் தேசிய விடுதலைப் போராட்டம் மீளாய்வை நோக்கி, அலியார் மர்சூஃப்பின் ஒரு போராளியின் டயறி, அற்புதனின் துரையப்பா முதல் காமினி வரை, மணியத்தின் புலிகளின் வதைமுகாம் அனுபவங்கள், ரயாகரனின் வதைமுகாமில் நான், ராஜினி திராணகம, ராஜன் ஹூல், கே.. சிறீதரன் மற்றும் தயா சோமசுந்தரம் ஆகியோர் இணைந்து எழுதிய முறிந்த பனை, செ. யோகரட்ணத்தின் தீ மூண்ட நாட்களும் தீண்டாமைக் கொடுமைகளும், மற்றும் பாலநடராஜ ஐயர் எழுதிய நூலொன்றும் உள்ளது என குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார். இவை எல்லாவற்றையும் வாசிக்க சந்தர்ப்பம் கிடைக்கவில்லை. இந்த வரிசையில் இறுதியாக வந்துள்ள நூல், கணேசன் என்கின்ற ஐயரின் ஈழப் போராட்டத்தில் எனது பதிவுகள் என்பதாகும். இதை இணையத்தில் வெளிவந்தபோது வாசித்து பின் நூலாக வெளிவந்தபின் இரண்டாம் தரமாக வாசிக்கின்றேன். சில நூல்களைப் பல மீள் வாசிப்புகளுக்கு உட்படுத்தப்படும் பொழுதுதான் அதன் பல்வேறு விடயங்களை அவதானிக்கக் கூடியதாக இருக்கின்றது. அவ்வாறான அவதானிப்பினை அடிப்படையாகக் கொண்ட சில குறிப்புக்களே இந்தப் பதிவு.

A group of Tamil diaspora activists who have pushed for legal action against the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), continue to claim that there is “credible evidence” of Sri Lankan Army General turned diplomat, Major General Prasanna de Silva’s involvement in alleged war crimes. Major General de Silva presently serves as defence adviser to the Sri Lankan High Commission in London, but is expected to return to the country shortly. Following the refusal of British Foreign Secretary, William Hague, to declare Major General Silva persona non gratae and deny him diplomatic immunity, the Global Tamil Forum (GTF) has now pushed for a judicial review of the FCO’s actions. “Of course we believe evidence against Maj. Gen. Silva is credible,” the GTF’s spokesperson, Suren Surendiran, said in an email interview last week. “However, let a court decide whether he is guilty or not guilty. By avoiding facing justice, one cannot prove his or her innocence. By running away from the UK, that’s exactly what Mr. Silva is avoiding. If he or the government has nothing to hide, they must get these charges proven wrong, rather than hiding behind immunity and complaining.”
[5 April 2012, 8:02 pm] Mr. Deputy Chairman of Committees, we are discussing in the House today, an Adjournment Motion pertaining to the Resolution passed at the UN Human Rights Council at the 19th Session last month. Before I commence my views in regard to what happened at Geneva , I think I need to outline briefly the history and the growth of the tragedy of the Tamil people in this country and the Tamil issue, to put things in proper perspective. The Sri Lankan State has been insensitive and callous in dealing with the issues pertaining to the Tamil people, particularly in the North and the East. It was only the Tamil people who stood up politically against the Sri Lankan State, though it must be acknowledged that the Tamil-speaking Muslim people in the North and the East have also had similar issues and concerns. It is the Tamil people who have shown the resilience to stand up to the Sri Lankan State. More than six decades later, after the country attained Independence , we still show that resilience. That is because we are an ancient people with our own civilization and our distinct identity. We are prepared to be integrated into the Sri Lankan nation but we cannot be and will not be assimilated.

Mar 23, 2012 - Since India’s vote supporting the resolution against Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) that called for promotion of reconciliation and accountability for alleged violations of International law, the predominant Delhi-centric analyses have been that India has committed an awful blunder. The most common arguments that emerged from the conventional geo-political logic, that completely failed to see the political and public sentiments in Tamil Nadu, as well as the overwhelming evidence of alleged war crimes and human rights violations in Sri Lanka, centred around the following: India has voted against a traditional ally-neighbour and it’s a strategic blunder vis-a-vis China and Pakistan. The chatter also highlighted that the entire Asian block voted in favour while India sided with the West, and that it will further stoke Sinhala nationalism and marginalisation of Tamils. It wasn’t surprising that most of them, except a few like Kamal Mitra Chinoy, Brahma Chellany and Manoj Joshi, spoke about the issue in the same breath as they speak about Pakistan.
இலங்கையில் போர்க்காலச் சம்பவங்களின்போது நடந்ததாகக் கூறப்படும் மனித உரிமை மீறல்கள் தொடர்பில் முறையான விசாரணை நடத்தப்பட வேண்டும் எனக் கோரும் அமெரிக்காவின் தீர்மானம் ஐநாவின் மனித உரிமைகள் பேரவையில் இந்தியா உட்பட 24 நாடுகளின் ஆதரவுடன் நிறைவேற்றப்பட்டுள்ளது. இந்தத் தீர்மானம் தொலைநோக்கில் மிகவும் முக்கியத்துவம் வாய்ந்ததொன்று. இலங்கையை உடனடியாக வற்புறுத்தாது விட்டாலும், நிறைவேற்றப்பட்ட இந்தத் தீர்மானம் இலங்கைக்கான தீவிரமானதொரு எச்சரிக்கை. மகிந்த ராஜபக்ச சகோதரர்களின் அரசானது தங்களது நோக்கில் இலங்கைத் தமிழர்களது உணர்வுகளை, உரிமைகளைக் கவனத்திலெடுக்காது தொடர்ந்தும் தமிழர்களை இராணுவ ஆட்சிக்குள் அடிமைப்படுத்தியவாறு, திட்டமிட்ட சிங்களக் குடியேற்றங்களை வடகிழக்கில் அதிகரித்தவண்ணமிருக்குமானால், நடைபெற்ற போர்க்குற்றங்கள் பற்றிய பூரண விசாரணை நடத்தாமல் தாமதிக்குமானால் இன்னும் சில வருடங்களில் இத்தீர்மானத்தை ஆதாரமாக வைத்து சர்வதேச சமூகம் சர்வதேசக் குற்றவியல் நீதிமன்றம் போன்ற ஏனைய அமைப்புகளின் வாயிலாக நடவடிக்கைகளை எடுப்பதற்கு அல்லது ஐக்கிய நாடுகள் சபையின் மூலம் மேலும் கடுமையான நடவடிக்கைகளை எடுப்பதற்கு இந்த தீர்மானம் வாய்ப்புகளை ஏற்படுத்திக்கொடுத்துள்ளது.
- 22 மார்ச், 2012 - இலங்கையில் போர்க்காலச் சம்பவங்களின்போது நடந்ததாகக் கூறப்படும் மனித உரிமை மீறல்கள் தொடர்பில் முறையான விசாரணை நடத்தப்பட வேண்டும் எனக் கோரும் அமெரிக்காவின் தீர்மானம் ஐநாவின் மனித உரிமைகள் பேரவையில் நிறைவேற்றப்பட்டுள்ளது.மனித உரிமை கவுன்சிலில் மொத்தமாக உள்ள 47 உறுப்பினர்களில் அமெரிக்காவின் பிரேரணைக்கு ஆதரவாக 24 நாடுகள் வாக்களித்திருக்கின்றன. எதிராக 15 நாடுகள் இலங்கையை ஆதரித்திக்கின்றன. 8 நாடுகள் வாக்களிப்பில் கலந்துகொள்ளாமல் தவிர்த்திருக்கின்றன. அமெரிக்காவின் பிரேரணையை எப்படியாவது தோற்கடித்துவிட வேண்டுமென்ற பிரச்சாரத்திலும் பேச்சுவார்த்தைகளிலும் இலங்கையின் பிரமுகர்கள் கடந்த பல வாரங்களாகவே தீவிரமாக ஈடுபட்டிருந்தனர். இந்த நிலையில், பிரேரணை நிறைவேறத் தேவையான குறைந்தபட்ச எண்ணிக்கையாக 24 நாடுகள் அமெரிக்காவின் நிலைப்பாட்டை ஆதரித்திருக்கின்றன.
உத்திரப்பிரதேச மாநிலத்தேர்தல் நடந்து முடிந்தது. ஐந்து வருட மாயாவதி ஆட்சிக்கு பிற்பாடு தற்சமயம் நடந்து முடிந்த தேர்தலில் மறுபடியும் முலாயம்சிங் யாதவின் சமாஜ;வாதிகட்சி உ.பியின் ஆட்சி நாற்காலியை பிடித்திருக்கிறது. அவருடைய மகன் அகிலேஷ் யாதவை கட்சிக்காரர்கள் முதலமைச்சர் பதவிக்காக தேர்ந்தெடுத்தார்கள். மார்ச் பதினைந்தாம் தேதி ஆளுனர் பவனில் 38 வயதுடைய அகிலேஷ்யாதவ் முதலமைச்சர் பதவிப்பிரமாணத்தை எடுத்துக் கொண்டார். இளைய தலைமுறை அகிலேஷ் யாதவின் கைகளில் உ.பியின் கடிவாளம் கொடுக்கப்பட்டது. அகிலேஷ் யாதவ் முதலமைச்சராகி கொஞ்ச நேரம்கூட எடுக்கவில்லை, அதற்குள்ளே மாநிலத்தில் பல்வேறு பகுதிகளில் கட்சித்தொண்டர்கள,; நீண்டநாட்களாக தூங்கிக் கொண்டிருந்த அராஜகங்களை தட்டி எழுப்பினார்கள், அதாவது அடிதடி, கலவரம், கடையடைப்பு, உள்ளூர் பேருந்துகளுக்கு தீப்பிடிக்க வைத்தல் ஆகியவைகளை வெற்றிகரமாக நடத்தினார்கள். முன்னாள் முதலமைச்சர் மாயாவதியை ஆதரித்து வந்த கிராம தலித்தலைவர்களை உருட்டுக்கட்டையால் கண்மூடித்தனமாக அடித்து நொறுக்கினார்கள். பல தலைவர்கள் படுகாயம்பட்டு மருத்துவமனையில் தாமாகவே சேர்ந்தார்கள், அவர்களுள் ஒருவர் உயிரிழந்தார்.
( March 18, Brisbane,Sri Lanka Guardian) The Channel 4 News videos on the ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka are about the most important contributions to apprise the world of what has gone on, and is still going on, behind the closed and censored doors of Sri Lanka. There are now two documentaries, Sri Lanka’s Killing Fields released in June 2011, and Sri Lanka’s killing Fields. War Crimes Unpunished released in March 2012. They contain crucial evidence of war crimes and crimes against humanity, if not Genocide of the Tamils. The world needs to see these, since all that comes out of Sri Lanka is what the Sri Lankan Government wants the world to believe. That is what a Totalitarian does – to shut down the Media, among other repressive measures. It is therefore essential that these dreadful atrocities be seen by as many people as possible. There is, however, a problem with these Channel 4 videos. There is no background information which is so important to appreciate why these atrocities occurred. If this is not provided, then these videos are nothing but yet another ‘horror movie’. What has gone on in the war waged by the Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) on the Tamil people (not just the Tamil Tigers), is much more than a horror story.

பல மில்லியன் ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு ஆப்பிரிக்க கானகங்களில் சுற்றிக்கொண்டிருந்த குரங்கினங்களில் ஒன்று மனித இனமாகப் பரிணமித்த போது தோன்றிய முதல் மனித உயிர் ஆணல்ல, அது ஒரு பெண். ஆம்! அவள் தான் நமது மூதாய் என்று அறிவியல் உறுதியாகச் சொல்கிறது. நாகரிகம் தோன்றாத அந்தக் காலத்தில் வேட்டையாடிக் கொண்டு குகைகளில் மனித இனம் வாழ ஆரம்பித்தது. இந்த ஆதிப் பொதுவுடமைச் சமுதாயத்தில் பெண்ணே தலைமைப் பாத்திரம் வகித்தாள்; பெண்ணே வேட்டைக்குத் தலைமைத் தாங்கினாள்; பெண்ணே சமுதாயத்தை இயக்கினாள். படைத்து காத்து ரட்சிப்பது கடவுளல்ல, பெண் தான் என்பது அந்த காட்டுமிராண்டி மனிதர்களுக்கு தெரிந்திருந்தது. காலங்கள் சென்றன, ஆரம்ப கால நாகரிகங்கள் உருவாகின. மனித அறிவின் வளர்ச்சியால் கருவிகள் கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டன. வாழ் முறைகள் பெரும் மாற்றத்துக்குள்ளாயின. உற்பத்தியில் ஈடுபட்டு ஓரிடத்தில் நிலையாக வாழ ஆரம்பித்த மனித இனத்தில் தனியுடமைத் தோன்றிற்று, தற்கால குடும்ப முறையும் உருப்பெற்றது. இப்போது தலைமைப் பாத்திரம் பெண்களிடமிருந்து ஆணுக்கு மாறியிருந்தது. எனினும் பெண்கள் சமுதாயத்தில் அனைத்து நிலையிலும் பங்கு பெற்றனர். உலகின் முதல் விஞ்ஞானியானாலும், முதல் விவசாயி ஆனாலும் அல்லது உலகின் முதல் கவிஞர் ஆனாலும் சரி- அவர்கள் பெண்களாகவே இருந்தனர்.
Three years have passed since the Government of Sri lanka (GoSL) announced the end of the armed conflict, but to date it has not taken any steps towards a permanent political solution for the genuine grievances of the Eelam Tamil people. Eelam Tamils have been pursuing their just struggle for freedom for more than 60 years; part of that was an armed conflict. Recent years have witnessed some of the most horrendous crimes against humanity committed by Sri Lankan armed forces against the Tamils. The suffering has only strengthened the resolve of the people for justice. To symbolise the continuation of the struggle, and to coincide with the 19th Session of the UN Human Rights Council, three Tamil youths from Europe (Gracian from Switzerland, and Kajan and Selvin from France) have joined together to conduct a ‘walk for justice’ from Brussels to Geneva.
A group of well-known civil society activists have strongly condemned the recent attack on the Colombo head office of Viluthu, a non-governmental organisation working to promote social justice and women’s rights. In a communiqué signed by 35 activists which was released today, the incident is described as a “cowardly act” that was “carried out in order to intimidate the organisation”. The signatories also expressed dismay that the incident occurred in a high security zone and called on the law enforcement agencies to take prompt action to apprehend those responsible for the attack. The attack took place between the night of January 23 and the early hours of January 24. According to the joint communiqué, “Viluthu’s work is focused on good governance and empowerment in the north and east of Sri Lanka in supporting the war-affected community. These kinds of attacks pose a threat to an open society that is founded on democratic values and the rule of law, and upholds freedom of speech and civic activism. It is such a society that we as Sri Lankans should nurture if we are to move towards reconciliation and a lasting peace.”
For Tamils, the end of Sri Lanka’s civil war has brought no peace dividend; for Tamil women, peace has brought with it a continuation – and in some cases an intensification – of violence and insecurity. In the country’s predominantly Tamil-speaking north and east – a region half the size of Nova Scotia – tens of thousands of “war widows” have been living under the control of the central government and Sinhalese security forces since 2009 and the end of the civil war, whose last few months saw as many as 40,000 civilians killed. There has been an alarming increase in gender-based violence, including domestic violence, within the Tamil community, as well as forced prostitution and trafficking. All of this is against a backdrop of credible evidence of wartime sexual violence by government forces, including video footage showing soldiers making sexual comments while handling dead, naked bodies of female suspected Tamil Tiger fighters, some with their hands bound. At the UN Human Rights Council session opening late next month, there is a chance to finally ensure accountability and to address the current state of insecurity; Sri Lanka and the international community, including Canada, should take it.
The extrajudicial killing of civilians, surrendering soldiers and dissident journalists under the direction of the Sri Lankan government has been alleged by a former general in the Army who was extremely well-placed to comment on military activity during the island nation’s bloody civil war. The source, whose name is withheld for reasons of safety, had high-level security clearance and access to the flow of orders during the final days of the conflict. He made the assertions in legally binding testimony to a US lawyer in New York in 2010, recorded in an affidavit seen by Truthout. His statements hold particular significance because they appear to corroborate claims made in reports by prominent human rights organizations, international media and a report for the United Nations by a panel of experts published in 2011. The allegations also closely corroborate the accounts of other members of the Sri Lankan Army during the civil war. It is believed that representatives of the United States State Department have spoken to the source and hold a rich collection of testimonies and other evidence regarding alleged crimes committed during the civil war.

As we approach the third anniversary of the Sri Lankan genocide, a report is released, signed by 71 Tamil elite intellectuals titled as “An appeal to the Tamil Community and its civil and political representatives”, appealing to Tamil community for the resettlement of Muslim communities that were evicted by the LTTE during the war.
About 200,000 displaced people are still living in refugee camps in northern Sri Lanka, even though southerners believe everything is back to normal. The government organises trips to the war zone only to show monuments that celebrate the army’s victory. Almost three years since the end of 30 years of ethnic conflict, Sri Lanka has not yet resolved its so-called ‘Tamil problem’. About 200,000 Tamil internally displaced people live in refugee camps in the northern part of the country under military control, unable to go home to their villages. 26 November 2011 - Former President Chandrika Kumaratunga last week delivered a scathing attack on the government’s handling of the former IDPs at a discussion held in the South Asia Policy Research Institute in Colombo. “You may be satisfied with it (reconciliation process), but I am not,” she said responding to Professor Rohan Gunaratna, who was the guest speaker. Prof. Gunaratna earlier in his address outlined the government’s achievements in post war transformation in the spheres of humanitarian assistance, social and economic developments and political engagement. “I don’t know whether it was necessary to keep250,000 civilians in detention for two years?” Kumaratunga quizzed. She recalled that the government leaders at the time justified the move, arguing that it was necessary to identify the terrorist cadres among the civilians.

Rival factions of the overseas Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam(LTTE)competing with each other to commemorate the event in Western countries where substantial concentrations of Sri Lankan Tamils are prevalent. November 27th falls on a Sunday this year. This has reinforced the efforts of both factions as the chances of drawing massive crowds is greater because of Sunday being a holiday.In a scenario similar to a market place both factions are doing their best to ensure that the Great Heroes Day(GHD)events organized by them get the highest number of attendees. The LTTE faction led by Perinpanayagam Sivaparan alias Nediyavan has the advantage of being in control of the existing overseas tiger structures known as “kattamaippu”.Utilising those structures the Nediyavan faction is going ahead with the usual agenda of conducting the event in different western cities.However it is not smooth sailing for Nediyavan’s mainstream LTTE as there is a rival contender for the crown. The faction led by Segarampillai Vinayagamoorthy alias Vinayagam has jumped into the fray this year. The Vinayagam faction is also planning to stage “Great Heroes Day”(GHD)events in some Western countries....

Chandrika Kumaratunga, the former president of Sri Lanka, painted a sobering picture of an island nation recovering from civil war during a talk at CGIS yesterday. Kumaratunga, who led Sri Lanka from 1994 to 2005, described her administration’s unsuccessful attempts to resolve through peaceful negotiations the long-standing conflict between Sri Lanka’s majority Sinhalese and minority Tamil populations. Sri Lanka’s first female president attributed the challenge in part to a “mentality of siege” that has become entrenched in the psyche of the Sri Lankan people. “For 2000 years we were a very strong nation ... but we underwent nearly 500 years of Western colonial rule and were completely subjugated for 450 years,” she said. This, she argued, helps explain why war, not peace, has held the day.

[October 29, 2011] Years after Sri Lanka’s bitter civil war ended in a bloodbath, we still don’t know the half of what went on in the final horrific days. According to the United Nations, “tens of thousands” died in 2008-2009 as government forces crushed a Tamil Tiger rebellion. The army “systematically” shelled UN facilities, areas where 330,000 civilians were huddled, hospitals and food lines, a UN panel found. The rebels, in turn, used civilians as shields. There are “credible allegations,” the UN said, of point-blank executions, torture, rape and other war crimes by both sides. Nor has President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s triumphalist government held a credible probe, or honoured promises to give Tamils “substantive” regional autonomy, stronger minority rights and a fair share of jobs in the civil service and military. A “deeply flawed” postwar reconciliation commission is a sham, the UN concluded.

One of the world's most eccentric and unpredictable leaders, Gaddafi dominated the world stage for decades. Since he lead a successful military coup in 1969, Gaddafi styled himself as Libya's "brother leader" and the "guide of the revolution", as an almost paternal figure looking after Libya's six million inhabitants. His relationship with the rest of the world was erratic. For years, Gaddafi was known in the West as a pariah, blamed for the 1988 bombing of a Pan Am jumbo jet over Lockerbie, Scotland, which killed 270 people. After years of denial, Libya acknowledged responsibility and agreed to pay up to $10m to relatives of victims; Gaddafi also declared he would dismantle all weapons of mass destruction.

WASHINGTON, Sep 16, 2011 (IPS) - Despite months of frustrated efforts to secure a full and impartial investigation into possible laws-of-war violations during the last phase of Sri Lanka's civil war, which ended in 2009, leading human rights advocates in the U.S. launched a fresh charge on the island nation's government this week, vowing that, "If the Sri Lankan government won't provide justice for victims, the international community will." The push was sparked by a diplomatic spat at the 18th annual session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), which opened in Geneva on Monday, when Navanethem Pillay, the U.N. high commissioner for human rights, urged Sri Lankan authorities to conduct a full review of its security apparatus.

அன்றைய காலத்திலிருந்தே உலகத்தில் யுத்தங்கள் நடந்திருக்கின்றன. யுத்தத்தின் இயல்பே குரூரமானது. எனினும் முன்னையவர்கள் ஒழுக்க மேம்பாடுகளுக்கமையவே யுத்தம் செய்தார்கள். ஒழுக்க மேம்பாடுகளுக்கமைய யுத்தம் செய்வது பற்றி கற்றுத் தரும் மகாபாரதம் போன்ற மகா காவியங்கள் அக் காலத்தில் எழுதப்பட்டன. இராமன், இராவணன் யுத்தமானது இராமாயணம் எழுதப்படக் காரணமானது. மகா அலெக்ஸாண்டர் அரசருக்கும் கூட யுத்த களத்தின் கௌரவங்கள், ஒழுக்க மேம்பாடுகள் குறித்து விளக்கமளிக்கப்பட்டது. அதனால் அவரும் தோல்வியுற்ற எதிரிகளை மிகவும் கௌரவத்துடன் நடத்தினார் என்று சொல்லப்படுகிறது. எங்களது எல்லாள, துட்டகைமுனு யுத்தம் கூட மிகவும் நீதமாக நடைபெற்ற அழகிய யுத்தமொன்று. அது வெறி பிடித்த இனக் கலவரமொன்றல்ல. அரசர்கள் இருவர் தனது சேனையிலிருந்த உயிர்களைக் காப்பாற்றிக் கொள்ள, நேர்மையாக யுத்தம் செய்து வெற்றி தோல்வியைத் தீர்மானித்தார்கள். தோல்வியுற்ற எல்லாளனுக்காக கல்லறையொன்றைக் கட்டி அதனை கௌரவப்படுத்தும்படி எல்லோருக்கும் கட்டளையிட்டார் துட்டகைமுனு மன்னன். அக் கட்டளையானது இன்றும் பின்பற்றப்படுகிறது. யுத்தத்தில் வென்ற துட்டகைமுனு மன்னன், அதன் பிறகு அமைதியாக வாழத் தீர்மானித்தார். அவர் இன்றும் கூட எங்கள் அனைவருக்கும் அமைதியாக வாழ வழி காட்டும் ருவன்வெலி மஹாசாயவைக் கட்டினார். அசோகமாலா காதல் வயப்பட்டு தனது புத்திரனை தாழ்ந்த குலத்தவருக்கே கொடுத்தார்.
தற்போது இந்தியாவில் முன்னாள் பாரதப் பிரதமர் இராஜீவ் கொலையில் குற்றவாளிகளாகக் காணப்பட்டுத் தூக்குத்தண்டனையை எதிர்நோக்கியிருக்கும் சாந்தன், பேரறிவாளன், முருகன் ஆகியோரின் கருணைமனுக்களை இந்திய ஜனாதிபதி நிராகரித்து விட்டதையடுத்து அவர்களுக்கான தூக்குத்தண்டனை நிறைவேற்றுப்படுவதற்கான சாத்தியம் அதிகரித்துள்ளது. இந்த மரணதண்டனை என்பது தர்க்கரீதியாகப் பார்த்தால் கேலிக்குரியது. கொலைகளுக்கு மரணதண்டனைதான் சரியான தீர்வென்றால் , கொலையாளிகளெனக் கருதப்படுபவர்களுக்கு மரணதண்டனை நிறைவேற்றுவதும் இன்னுமொரு கொலையே. அரசினால் நடாத்தப்படும், சட்டரீதியிலான கொலை. கொலைஞர்களுக்குரிய தண்டனை மரணதண்டனை என்றால் கொலையாளிகளுக்கு மரணதண்டனை நிறைவேற்றும் அனைவருக்குமுரிய தண்டனையும் மரணதண்டனைதான். ஏனெனில் சட்டத்தின்முன் கொலைகளுக்கு இருவேறு தண்டனைகளிருக்க முடியாது. ஆனாலும் நடைமுறையில் சட்டமென்பதும் கூட ஒருபக்கச் சார்பானதுதான். முதலாளித்துவ அரசென்றாலென்ன, இனத்துவேசம் மிக்க அரசென்றாலென்ன, அவ்வகையான அரசுகளால் நிறைவேற்றப்படும் நீதிமனற நடைமுறைகள், தீர்ப்புகளும் அவற்றுக்குச் சார்பானவையாகவே இருக்கும். மரண தண்டனை எல்லா நாடுகளிலும் கொலைக்குற்றங்களுக்குத்தான் விதிக்கப்படுமென்பதில்லை.
OTTAWA–Jack Layton, the New Democratic Party leader who led his party to Official Opposition status in this year’s federal election, has died after a battle with cancer. He was 61. “Your support and well wishes are so appreciated. Thank you,” Layton, posted to the social media site Twitter in July after announcing he was battling a new form of cancer. “I will fight this and beat it.” It ended up being the last public announcement he would make in his long political career, which saw him evolve from campus activist to rabble-rousing left-wing municipal councilor to the most electorally successful leader of the federal New Democrats in history. Layton had been on a leave of absence as party leader since July 25, when he temporarily stepped aside to fight a second — and evidently much more serious — bout of cancer. It is cliché to say that a politician has politics in his blood, and yet there are few politicians who embody it the way Layton did, with his family involvement in the life reaching all the way back to the birth of the country. There was his great-grand-uncle, William Henry Steeves, a bona fide father of Confederation from New Brunswick who also served as a founding member of the senate Layton has long wanted to abolish.

இலங்கைத் தமிழர் பிரச்சினை தொடர்பாக தமிழக சட்டப்பேரவையில் நிறைவேற்றப்பட்ட தீர்மானத்துக்கு உள்நோக்கம் கற்பிக்கும் வகையில், இலங்கை அரசின் பாதுகாப்புச் செயலர் கோட்டாபய ராஜபக்ஷ பேட்டியளித்திருப்பதாகவும், அதற்கு இந்திய அரசு கண்டனம் தெரிவிக்க வேண்டும் என்றும் தமிழக முதலமைச்சர் ஜெயலலிதா வலியுறுத்தியுள்ளார். அதே நேரத்தில், இலங்கையில், சிங்கள மக்களுக்கு இணையாக தமிழ் மக்களுக்கும் சம உரிமை கிடைக்கும் வரை தனது அரசு ஓயாது என்றும் ஜெயலலிதா கருத்துத் தெரிவித்துள்ளார். இலங்கை தமிழர் விவகாரம் தொடர்பான தமிழக அரசின் தீர்மானத்தை அரசியல் உள்நோக்கம் என்று கூறிய இலங்கை பாதுகாப்பு செயலரை ந்தியா கண்டிக்க வேண்டும் என்கிறார் தமிழக முதல்வர்.
தாய்மைக்கும் பெண்மைக்கும் எமது சமூகத்தில் உதாரணம் தேடத் தேவையில்லை. ஆனால் என்னைப் பாதித்த விடயத்தை சொல்கிறேன். எனக்கு கிடைத்த தகவல்களின்படி இறுதிக்கட்ட போரில் பலர் சரண்அடையும் போது திப்பு சுல்தான் போன்று இறுதிவரையும் போரிட்டு இறந்த முக்கிய தளபதி சூசையாவார். சூசையின் மனைவி; கடைசி நேரத்தில் முள்ளிவாய்க்காலில் “நீங்கள் நடத்திய பயிற்சியில் நான் எனது மகனை இழந்தேன். ஆனாலும் உங்களை விட்டுப் போகவில்லை. இப்பொழுது இருக்கும் ஒரு குழந்தையையும் நான் இழக்கத் தயாரில்லை. நான் கடல்வழியாகத் தப்பி கடற்படையினரிடம் சரணடைவதை நீங்கள் தடுக்க முடியாது” என கூறிவிட்டு முள்ளிவாய்காலில் இருந்து அந்த போராளித் தாய் வள்ளத்தில் வெளியேறினாள். கடந்த வைகாசி மாதம் நான் இலங்கை சென்று திரும்பிய பின்னர் பெண்கள் அதிலும் விடுதலைப்புலிகள் இயக்கத்தில் இருந்த இளம் பெண்களைப் பற்றிய கட்டுரை எழுதினேன். அதனைப்படித்த பலர் என்னைத் தொடர்பு கொண்டு தமது கவலையைத் தெரிவித்தார்கள். வெளிநாடுகளில் இருக்கும் நாம் கவலை அடைவதன் மூலம் எதனையும் சாதிக்க முடியாது. என்னைப் பொறுத்தவரை சமூகத்தின் மூலவேர் பெண்கள்தான். பலருக்கு இதை நான் அதிகம் விளக்கத் தேவையில்லை.
இலங்கையில் உள்ள “ நிட்டாயவோ” பற்றி எழுதும்போது பிரட்ரிக் லூயிஸ் சொன்னார், தோற்றத்தில் அவர்கள் குள்ளமாகவும், நீளமான பலம் வாய்ந்த கரங்களையும், கழுகின் பாதத்திலுள்ள நகங்களைப்போல கொக்கி போன்ற நகங்களையும் கொண்டு, கிட்டத்தட்ட மனிதர்களைப் போலத்தான் இருப்பார்கள் என்று. இந்த நிட்டாயவோக்கள் 15 இலிருந்து 20 வரையான சிறிய குழுக்களாகச் சேர்ந்துதான் வசிப்பார்கள். அவர்கள் தங்களுக்கு கிடைக்கும் இரைகளின் வயிற்றை கழுகின் பாதம் போன்ற தங்கள் கூரிய நகங்களால் கொடூரமாக குத்திக் கிழிப்பார்கள், என்று ஹக் நெவில் என்கிற மற்றொரு எழுத்தாளர் கூறியுள்ளார். அவர்கள் வேடர்களின் பிள்ளைகளைப் பிடித்துச் சென்றதால்தான் வேடர் இனமே அழிந்து போனது என இரண்டு எழுத்தாளார்களுமே எழுதியுள்ளார்கள்.
சோழியனின் கருப்பு ஜூலை 1983 பற்றிய கட்டுரை, குறிப்பாக இராமகிருஷ்ண மண்டபத்தில் நிகழ்ந்த சம்பவங்களைப் பற்றிய அவரது நினைவு கூர்தல் , அன்றைய நினைவுகளை மீண்டுமெழுப்பின. உண்மையில் காடையர்கள் உள்ளே நுழைந்ததும், உள்ளே அகப்பட்டிருந்த மக்களெல்லோரும் ஒவ்வொரு மாடியாக , மொட்டை மாடி வரைக்கும் ஓடி ஒளிந்தார்கள். சிலர் பல்வேறு மாடிகளிலுள்ள குளியலறைகள் / மலசலகூடங்களிற்குள்ளும் ஒளிந்தார்கள். மொட்டை மாடி வரையில் சென்றவர்களைத் துரத்தியபடி காடையர்கள் தொடர்ந்தும் முன்னேறி வந்தார்கள். மொட்டை மாடியை அடைந்தவர்களுக்கு வேறெங்கும் செல்வதற்கு வழியில்லை. அங்கிருந்த தண்ணீர் தாங்கிகளுக்கும், தளத்திற்குமிடையிலிருந்த இடைவெளிக்குள் பெண்கள், குழந்தைகள் புகுந்துகொண்டார்கள். ஏனையவர்கள் மொட்டை மாடியில் நீட்டிக்கொண்டிருந்த 'காங்ரீட்' தூண்களின் பின்னால் தங்களை மறைப்பதற்கு முயன்று கொண்டிருந்தார்கள்.

In July 1983, I was working in a Middle Eastern country. When I heard about the anti-Tamil riots in Sri Lanka, I was aware of a catastrophe, even though I was too politically immature then to grasp the full nature of the tragedy and its implications for Sri Lanka in the years to come. My sympathies for the victims were heartfelt and deep. In 1983, though, I was a very naïve, well-meaning Sinhala Buddhist young man who believed that a limited war could contain the LTTE, and that the government was now fully awake to the ugly reality of communal violence and would make sure it would not happen again by offering the Tamils a satisfactory political deal. Twenty eight years later, I know better. Let’s not start another round of blame games. Whatever terrorists do, governments are duty bound to protect their citizens. What I failed to realise back then was that the government shouldn’t have let Black July happen in the first place. After returning home in 1984, I remember telling a Tamil tenant in my neighbourhood how bad I felt about the whole thing. He didn’t even smile.
Senior delegates of British Tamils Forum (BTF) met the leaders of Bharathiya Janatha Party (BJP) of India at the week ended 17th July 2011. The president of BJP; Mr Nitin Gadkari, all India president of the women wing; Mrs. Smriti Irani, former chief minister of Rajasthan state; Ms Vasundara Raje Scindia and Delhi MLA; Mr Vijay Jolly were amongst the members of the BJP team on a campaign tour to the UK. The BJP leaders were met in London by the BTF Team as part of their campaign to highlight and inform the international community, of the situation in North & East of Sri Lanka and the plight of the Tamil people in the island. Amongst various issues discussed, Mr Gadkari expressed BJP's concern at the situation of the Tamil people in Sri Lanka. He assured that he will be discussing this matter with his colleagues and at the forthcoming conference in Chennai.

The issue most debated by intelligent Tamils last May, the 2nd Anniversary of Mullivaaikkaal, was the following: why did the leadership of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), possessing more than three decades of military experience and expertise, stay in their last and shrinking base in Mullaiteevu until it was too late to escape into the Vanni jungle? On the 1st Anniversary we analysed the dimensions of the global war against the LTTE in the essay ‘The Tiger Safari’, of how more than 30 countries set the Organisation up for the kill, and all that the Sinhalese military did, in a manner of speaking, was pull the trigger. But the question is: why did the LTTE defend Mullivaaikkaal to the fatal end?
On foreign Santa Clauses
In the context of west’s military backing for the Colombo regime and the unfolding LTTE-led Tamil National Resistance, it is important to bear in mind the coordinates of western realpolitik encapsulated in Otto von Bismarck’s dictum: ‘The great questions of the day will not be decided by speeches and resolutions of majorities,’ [and, may we add, by conflict resolution] ‘but by blood and iron.’ The Americans, Europeans, including Norwegians, and Japanese have NOT come from thousands of miles away to altruistically assist the Tamil people secure their rights in Sri Lanka. They did and still do pretend to be a bunch of political Santa Clauses thirsting to help emancipate Tamils by promoting devolution out of sheer goodness of heart. They are entitled to their devious acrobatics. However, any Tamil, local or diaspora, who swallows that drivel is living in cloud cuckoo land!

Footage broadcast by Channel 4 News showing the alleged massacre of Tamil prisoners is evidence of "serious international crimes", the UN says, as pressure mounts for an international investigation. A UN envoy has urged the international community and Sri Lanka to further investigate footage obtained by Channel 4 News purporting to show the summary executions of naked and bound men and women during the country's civil war. Channel 4 News first broadcast footage of the alleged execution of Tamil prisoners by Sri Lankan soldiers in 2009. Last December, damning new footage came to light of the same alleged massacre and the behaviour of government troops. The new footage revealed the naked dead bodies of at least seven women and a number of men. The faces of some government soldiers allegedl carrying out the executions could also be seen. Following an extensive investigation, Channel 4 News uncovered the identification of one of the victims captured in the video - a high profile member of the Tamil Tigers' press and communications wing.
(May 21, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Today, we moan from the very depths of our hearts the deaths of thousands of Tamils who were killed in Mullivaikal as well as in other places. Who are they? They are our beautiful children, our courageous young sons and daughters, beloved parents and grandparents whose burial grounds we do not know. On this day, as a Sinhalese, let me remember not only the physical deaths of thousands of Tamils, but also the moral and spiritual death of the Sinhala nation to which I belong, a nation that has been built on the unknown graveyards of many thousands of my Tamil sisters and brothers. As Martin Luther King lamented over his own American nation during the war against the people of Vietnam; a nation which spends on warfare and not on healthcare, welfare and education of its people is spiritually and morally doomed. Mullivaikal does not mark the end of Tamil aspiration for nationhood, homeland and self-determination, but it marks another defeat of humanity. Anybody who has a conscience among the Sinhalese and in the international community needs to know that Vanni massacre of Tamils questions our humanity rather than the project of Tamil Eelam. Therefore, Mullivaikal is a historical moment in the dawn of the twentieth century that highly questions the humanity of this so called global village. This is the fundamental moral truth about Vanni massacre of Tamils. What is the political truth about Mullivaikal?
